Location On-site, FCI Loretto, Loretto, PA

Start Date Immediate
Schedule Part-Time, approximately 6 hours/week, Monday–Friday between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM

Clear Vision. Quality Care. Real Impact.

Are you an Optometrist looking for a flexible, part-time role with a steady weekly schedule and a meaningful patient population? Join our team at FCI Loretto, a low-security federal correctional facility, where you’ll provide routine eye care to an underserved population that depends on you for their vision health.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform comprehensive eye exams on patients referred by the medical staff.
  • Diagnose eye conditions, perform tonometry exams, and remove foreign objects from the eye as needed.
  • Prescribe corrective lenses and frames; fit eyeglasses and adjust frames as needed.
  • Provide clear, legible written reports for every patient, including physical findings, diagnoses, and recommendations for treatment and follow-up care.
  • Adjust exam equipment as needed and complete 20–25 scheduled exams on a full session day.
  • Document each exam in the Bureau of Prisons’ electronic medical record system.
  • Practice in accordance with state law and standards generally accepted within the field of optometry.

Who You Are

  • A licensed Optometrist who works independently and brings sound clinical judgment to every exam.
  • Efficient and organized — able to keep an exam schedule moving while maintaining quality.
  • Comfortable working with patients from a wide range of cultural, regional, and ethnic backgrounds, and able to maintain a professional, secure environment in a correctional setting.
  • Reliable and committed to consistent weekly coverage. Correctional experience is a plus, but not required.

What You’ll Need

Education & Experience

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of six months of experience practicing as an Optometrist.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Current, active, unrestricted Pennsylvania Optometry license.
  • Current CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Professional liability insurance of at least $100,000.
  • Three letters of recommendation from professional peers.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background check and complete the facility’s security orientation (with annual refresher training).
  • Free of infectious diseases; proof of TB skin test or chest X-ray, plus annual flu vaccination and TB screening.
  • Professional attire that meets the facility’s dress code.

Why You’ll Love It Here

👁 Meaningful work — deliver quality vision care to a patient population that genuinely needs it.
📅 Flexible part-time schedule — roughly six sessions per week during weekday business hours, with federal holidays off.
🧰 Supplies provided — the facility supplies the materials and equipment you need to do the work.
💰 4% 401(k) match to help you build long-term financial security.
