EDFT Paris Branch – Short Term Analytics

The Short-Term Analytical Team is firstly an operational team. It is also in charge of developing the tools necessary for the smooth running of operational processes and analyses.

It has the following structure:

  • A first team of 7 analysts, a deputy and a manager dedicated to the optimization of the EDF assets. These analysts are working 7/7 in Paris and their core role is centred on the daily optimisation of the EDF production portfolio in France.
  • A second team of 6 analysts and a manager supporting the Short-Term desk during the weekdays:
    • 3 analysts are supporting the ID desks in Paris
    • 3 analysts are supporting the DA, WA, and Spark-Spread traders in London
  • A third team of 2 Optimisation Analysts, 1 Software Engineer, and the engineering manager, giving direction on the technology choices and ensuring sustainability of the tools.

Position purpose

The Optimisation Analyst works closely with the operational teams in charge of the short-term optimisation of the EDF assets (STAT, ID, and Spark-Spread), to develop and maintain the optimisation models, strategies, and corresponding workflows and APIs. He is also in charge of computing the KPIs of the operational teams.

Main responsibilities

The role of the Optimisation Analyst includes the following key elements:

  • Develop and maintain the models, applications and workflows related to the asset optimisation processes, in particular the Apogene platform (Batch, Darsi, Gazelle, Marlin applications)
  • Develop and maintain back-testing capabilities to evaluate strategies on auctions and OTC market. Propose new strategies when relevant.
  • Develop KPIs (including market impact) to monitor the activities and contribute to continuous improvement of processes
  • Support the team by providing optimisation expertise, training new joiners, and by encouraging good coding practices

Experience required

Experience in either a commodity trading environment (for example trading, asset optimisation, risk management or portfolio analysis) or in a closely related working environment

Technical requirements

The team’s stack includes Python, Rust, Node.js, Vue.js, Kafka, MongoDB, SQL, Azure solutions.

  • Experience in building optimisation models
  • Experience in the development of apis
  • Python is a must, knowledge of Rust and Javascript is a plus
  • Experience working with cloud solutions is a plus
  • Experience working in a trading environment is a plus
