This position will work at a casual status - 16 hours per week. Two days a week at 8 hours

The Optician at Prevea Health plays a vital role in providing personalized vision care by assisting patients in selecting and fitting eyewear based on prescriptions from optometrists or ophthalmologists. This position is responsible for ensuring proper lens crafting, frame adjustment, and education on lens options and eyewear care. The Optician collaborates with patients to understand their lifestyle and visual needs, manages inventory and merchandising in the optical area, and supports a seamless, high-quality experience in our vision care services.

What you will do

  • Review and interpret prescriptions from optometrists or ophthalmologists, assist patients in selecting frames and lenses that suit their prescription, lifestyle, and budget, and provide guidance on lens materials, coatings, and features. You will ensure proper fit and comfort by adjusting frames as needed and will accurately enter orders into the point-of-sale (POS) system while processing payments through the designated payment portal.
  • Troubleshoot patient glasses by identifying and resolving issues that affect the patient's comfort, vision, or the overall quality of their eyewear. Listen to the patient’s concerns and address any problems, whether they’re related to the prescription, frame, lenses, or fit.
  • Conduct telephone triage by assessing patient concerns, determining the urgency of their needs, and directing them to the appropriate level of care or action.
  • Responsible for the overall merchandising, cleaning, and maintenance of the optical area, including ensuring the store is clean, organized, and visually appealing. This includes keeping display tables, window displays, and the sales floor free of dust and clutter, as well as regularly cleaning and maintaining lenses on display items and test frames.
  • Ensure that glasses meet both the prescription requirements and quality standards. This inspection process includes verifying the lenses, frames, and overall fit to ensure they provide the best vision correction and comfort for the wearer.
  • Manage inventory of frames, lenses, and other optical products.
  • Work closely with frame representatives and manufacturers.

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Previous Optician experience Preferred
  • 1-3 years Sales experience in healthcare or retail setting Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients and colleagues.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic proficiency with computers and electronic systems.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.

  • American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification Upon Hire Required
