Job Description

Contributes to the company by providing efficient optical and customer service skills to patients. The optician should possess a wide range of knowledge of all current eyewear and contact lenses. Ensures patient is fitted with their correct lifestyle needs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Greets patients and provide excellent customer service.
  2. Promotes the sale of quality eyewear to the patient.
  3. Must be able to explain limitations and recommendations for both eyewear and contact lenses to patient.
  4. Inputting orders following standard operating procedures in Optical Management.
  5. Properly process and collect all payments in accordance to policy
  6. Checks status of all work in progress twice weekly to ensure timely delivery to the patient.
  7. Knowledge on use of manual lensometer.
  8. Verify and receive jobs upon arrival to ensure that RX and measurements are accurate.
  9. Review A/R Insurance Balance report bi-weekly for proper reimbursement
  10. Notifies patients when eyewear/contact lens orders are ready for pick-up
  11. Dispenses glasses and performs any adjustments or minor repairs on eyewear
  12. Must be able to educate patient in all aspects of lenses and options that are available to them
  13. Should have the ability to troubleshoot if the patient is having any kind of issues with eyewear
  14. Must understand all current refund, remake and frame replacement policies.
  15. Should be up to date on all of current promotions available to patients.
  16. Must be able to properly verify vision plans and thoroughly explain benefits to patient.
  17. Properly file vision plan claims as required
  18. Must be able to order lenses and contact lenses through our vendor portals.
  19. Verifies Patient records and contact information during each interaction.
  20. Responsible for overall appearance of work area, organization, cleanliness of optical displays, sales floor and back work area
  21. Follow all OSHA, ANSI STANDARDS and HIPAA guidelines
  22. Maintains positive work environment with all staff
  23. Duties subject to change and should be able to perform as assigned

Requirements

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  1. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and customer service
  2. Ability to interact with patients, doctors, co-workers, and management in a team-oriented environment
  3. Excellent sales skills
  4. Optical software and windows-based operating system knowledge

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Two years of optician experience
  3. ABO certification is preferred
