We are seeking a dynamic Optical Systems Engineer who will operate in a fast growing industry supporting amazing technology development around the world. This role will dive into development of test systems, initial design concepts, and support deployment of systems hardware in the field. We are looking for an innovative thinker to join our small, dynamic and supportive technical team who can stop into an exciting project, take ownership and start contributing with their breadth of knowledge.
Develop and deliver integrated test systems (optics, mechanics, data acquisition, and software)
Lead concept design, define assumptions, and evaluate cost/performance tradeoffs
Partner with project management on WBS, planning, and execution across design, manufacturing, QC, and commissioning
Design and analyze optical systems, including imaging and metrology models
Perform perturbation analysis and develop error budgets
Drive manufacturable, cost-effective solutions with the technical team
Develop tools/software for simulation and data analysis as needed
Design CGH test setups using AOM modeling tools
Define and verify performance, quality plans, and documentation
Translate customer requirements into practical concepts and solutions
Support field deployment and commissioning of test systems
MS or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering
5+ years in optical systems engineering
Strong optical design and analysis skills (Zemax or similar)
Experience with Optical Metrology
Ability to balance performance, cost, risk, and schedule
Hands-on experience with optical setup, alignment, and precision measurement tools (interferometer, CMM, laser trackers)
Experience developing optical tests, error budgets, and verification plans
Proficient in data analysis, uncertainty reduction, and post-processing (including custom software/tools)
Knowledge of optical surface specifications, GD&T, and kinematic design principles
Ability to produce clear technical reports and customer-facing documentation
Strong understanding of Optical Systems and Optical Designs spanning all disciplines
Understanding of mechanical and precision mechanics
Ability to work with and develop the integration of systems with software and electronics
