Job Description

Introduction

As a Production Engineer within the BCELL group—Bonding, Contacting, Etch, Litho, and Laser—you will support precision optical fabrication processes used to manufacture advanced glass components. This role builds on prior internship experience within the team and provides an opportunity to continue developing technical depth, manufacturing ownership, and structured problem-solving capability in a full-time engineering role.

In this role, you will work in a dynamic, collaborative manufacturing environment, partnering with production teams, development groups, and cross‑functional engineering organizations to create safe, stable, and highly reliable processes that meet demanding quality and performance requirements.

Role Overview

The Production Engineer (PE) supports assigned manufacturing processes, contributing to their stability, capability, and continuous improvement under the guidance of senior engineers. The PE develops technical depth in optical bonding and contacting processes, translating design intent and production requirements into well‑controlled, repeatable operations.

The PE partners closely with production, equipment engineering, safety, quality, and new product development organizations to identify process risks, reduce variation, improve yield, and resolve technical issues. This role builds a strong foundation in understanding and controlling critical process variables, applying data‑driven problem solving, and implementing sustainable improvements.

This is a highly hands‑on role that requires regular, direct engagement with production hardware and a strong presence in cleanroom and manufacturing environments. The PE supports process documentation, equipment qualifications, and process changes throughout the manufacturing lifecycle—from introduction and ramp‑up to sustained production and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support assigned BCELL manufacturing processes, contributing to safety, quality, yield, and process stability under guidance of senior engineers.
  • Support the development, execution, and maintenance of process control strategies, acceptance criteria, and monitoring methods.
  • Track and analyze process performance metrics to support technical decision‑making and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in investigations and resolution of process‑related issues, deviations, and escalations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to reduce variation, improve capability, and increase first‑pass yield through data‑driven analysis and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Identify and raise process‑related safety risks, supporting mitigation through process design, controls, and documented operating practices in partnership with Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS).
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including work instructions, qualification reports, test plans, and safety‑related analyses, to support compliant and repeatable execution.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, and development teams to support daily production, sustain stable processes, and enable new product introduction.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, accept feedback, and build technical capability through hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with engineering, production, and cross-functional partners to support alignment, issue resolution, and execution.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and apply structured problem‑solving methods to define root causes and support corrective actions.
  • Technical problem‑solving skills, with curiosity, attention to detail, and a systematic, data‑driven approach.
  • Ability to work proactively, adapt quickly, and contribute effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to organize work logically, manage multiple priorities, and drive issues to closure with appropriate guidance.
  • Experience operating in controlled manufacturing or laboratory environments, with disciplined adherence to procedures and standards.
  • Comfortable working directly with hardware and spending significant time in cleanroom and manufacturing environments.
  • Mindset oriented toward identifying and reducing risk, improving process robustness, and contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and contribute positively to a collaborative, team‑based engineering culture.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands‑on experience working directly with mechanical systems, tools, fixtures, equipment, or custom hardware, supporting troubleshooting and root‑cause identification through physical experimentation.
  • Experience working with contamination‑sensitive processes or precision components.
  • Exposure to semiconductor, optics, or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with common manufacturing and problem‑solving tools (e.g., DMAIC, A3, 8D, FMEA, DOE).
  • Exposure to statistical process control (SPC).

About ASML

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.

Who are our people?

While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Across ASML, we have dedicated teams that manage customer support, communications and media, IT, software development and more. Every team in the company is essential for pushing our technology and the industry forward.
