Job Description

The temporary Academic Program Specialist is responsible for providing supplementary instruction (tutoring) to students enrolled in the Anatomy Pre-Professional track of the MS in Medical Sciences as well as proctoring exams, grading assignments and other duties as assigned for both Anatomy MS Masters' students and undergraduate students enrolled in Anatomy & Physiology I & II (lecture & lab).

This position is time limited.

  • Maintain course files and materials in Canvas and develop new education content for online and on ground courses offered by the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology including such items as Power Points, Articulate stories, quiz and exam questions as well as both 2D and 3D image data bases.
  • Instruct students with organization of the online courses including how to navigate and effectively use the required online course software. Serve as an initial interface for the students regarding course technology implementation problems.
  • Serve as an interface for any course content related questions to help expand or clarify anatomical concepts as students' progress through the courses by preparing study guides for unit exams and fielding student questions.
  • Assist course instructors in preparing and delivering course quizzes and examinations as well as hosting post-exam reviews.
  • Assist in the grading of discussion boards, report assignments, student journal presentations and Power Point projects.
  • Provide weekly lab instruction for the Anatomy masters concentration students, including preparation of prospected materials for anatomy labs, assist students with cadaveric dissections and set-up and clean-up of anatomy labs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with four years of experience in office or administrative positions.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Master’s Degree in Basic Medical Science with experience in Human cadaver laboratory instruction prior to the beginning of the fall semester.
  • Successful completion and 4.0 GPA (or near 4.0) in GMS 6605 (Basic Human Gross Anatomy), 6609 (Anatomy lab dissection), 6630 (Basic Histology), GMS 6610 (Neuroanatomy) and GMS 6111 (Basic Human Pathology) or equivalent.

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
• (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
• (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
• (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree


Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
