Ophthalmic Technician (Visual Field Perimetrist) - University Campus
University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, is seeking a 100% Ophthalmic Technician – Perimetry (GC84) to perform visual field tests on patients. May also include tonometry, visual acuity testing, and eye drop instillation. Preferred schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00a-5:00p. Schedule may be modified to fit candidate and clinic needs.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB PERFORMANCE
Performance of Procedure
oPerforms manual and automated visual field testing including Goldmann, Humphrey, Octopus, and Maia Microperimetry Visual Fields.
oEnters data into devices, PACS, and EPIC.
oReads lens corrections from lensometer.
oParticipates in research studies within the Department of Ophthalmology.
oMay perform tonometry, visual acuity testing and eye drop instillation.
Aseptic Technique
oUses procedures, skills, techniques to prevent cross contamination and transmission of infection according to infection control standards, policies, and guidelines.
oCares for patient with known or potentially contagious infections according to written protocols.
Care of Supplies and Equipment
oKeeps exam room stocked with necessary supplies.
oMaintains and calibrates equipment properly.
oUses supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
WORK HABITS
Documents patient information regarding testing.
Prepares charts for next day’s clinics.
Assures proper billing documents are completed and turned in to Billing.
Completes assignment, seeks assistance when necessary and assumes responsibility for special duties or tasks assigned.
Maintains professional appearance.
DEPENDABILITY
Demonstrates punctual and dependable attendance at work.
Considers patient and staff needs when requesting time off; gives adequate notification when absence is expected.
Maintains safe environment for patients and visitors.
Attends in-service education programs.

Assists co-workers as needed.
Reports to work at scheduled time and returns from lunch and 15-minute breaks on time.
Notifies supervisor if ill or delayed, and calls in at beginning of scheduled shift for each day absent.
Requests future absences in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and department policy.
Interacts with other employees and the public in a positive manner.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
Performs projects within the agreed-upon time unless an extension is requested and approved.

***External hires only, in addition to your base salary, we are offering a sign-on incentive of $1,500, payable in one installment. The payment will be made on the first of the month following completion of 60 days of employment. Should you terminate employment within 24 months, you will be responsible for the prorated repayment of the sign-on incentive. The signed agreement will be processed upon hire. Current UI employees are not eligible.***
