The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting Per Diem opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) in Doral, Florida.

heOphthalmic Technician 1(OT1)is competent inthe theory,principles,and practice of eye care.The positionperformsappropriate clinicaltestingin compliance with department standardsanddocumentsin the EMR system.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs anddocumentsthe following items in the electronic medical record.

  • Reason for visit

  • Tangent screen visual fields

  • Chief complaint

  • Basic ocular motility

  • History of present illness

  • Pupillary evaluation

  • Basic review of systems

  • Ocular surface assessment

  • Review systemic and ocular medications

  • Eye drop administration

  • Recordallergies

  • Intraocular pressure suchasGoldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care

  • Pharmacy information

  • Pachymetry

  • Family, social, medical, and ocular history

  • Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses

  • Visual acuity at distance and near

  • Color vision test

  • Lensometry

  • Stereopsis test

  • Manual refraction

  • Sensorimotor exam

  • Confrontational fields

  • Automated & manual perimetry

  • Humphrey visual fields

  • Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields

  • Amsler Grid visual fields

  • Providessupport to providers whichincludesdocumentation in patient charts asrequiredand directed for patient care

  • Providespatient-centric care.

  • Adheresto University ofMiamipolicies, standards, values, and required training.

  • Complieswithregulationsandmaintainspatient confidentiality.

  • Followsbest practicesofpatient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.

  • Attendseducational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.

  • Demonstrateshighquality ofwork through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.

  • Meetsdaily productivity goals.

  • Ensuresall equipment iscalibratedand instrumentation is in proper working order.

  • Participatesin assigned clinical research andmaintainsrequired certifications.

  • Organizesand stocksrooms for daily clinical activities.

  • Travelsto satelliteeye centerswhen necessary.

  • Worksevenings and weekends as needed.

  • Performs organizationalduties asassigned

  • CompletesIVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients.

  • Facilitatesmotility exams.

  • SupportsVirtual Care encounters and exams

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma orequivalent

Certification and Licensing:

BLS (Basic Life Support)

Experience:

1year of relevant experience

  • Displays basic knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.

  • Demonstratesability to perform theappropriate patientworkup usingtheEMR telehealth platform.

  • Proficientin Microsoft Office.
