At Queensland Rail, we are proud to operate a vast and vital network that spans the state — from bustling metropolitan hubs to remote regional lines. Our work keeps communities connected and economies moving, and none of it would be possible without the people who maintain and operate our track infrastructure every day.

As a Track Operator Maintainer, you’ll be at the heart of this work. Whether it's performing essential inspections, operating heavy machinery, or responding to network faults, your contribution will help ensure the safe and efficient running of our services.

Your Opportunity:

We are currently seeking dedicated Operator Maintainer to join South East Queensland track teams. This is a hands-on, field-based role where no two days are the same. Working in a close-knit and safety-driven crew, you will:

  • Operate a range of plant and machinery used in track maintenance (e.g., hi-rail vehicles, tampers, excavators, loaders).
  • Assist with track inspections, repairs, re-railing, resurfacing, and general maintenance work.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to reduce future faults and support a safe rail network.
  • Respond to urgent infrastructure issues including derailments or weather-related damage.
  • Ensure compliance with Queensland Rail’s safety standards and environmental guidelines.
  • Complete job documentation, pre-start checks, and contribute to shift handovers.

This role involves working outdoors, sometimes in remote locations, and will require flexibility with travel and working a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate machinery unsupervised ensuring all aspects of works are carried out in an efficient and safe manner in accordance with all relevant manuals and track standards.
  • Operate machines to ensure total compliance to Queensland Rail's policies/rules and safe working procedures independently or as ateam.
  • Carry out regular servicing, minor and preventative maintenance on all on-track and auxiliary plant to the technical level of competence attained to ensure maximum equipment availability.
  • Liaise with the Resurfacing Supervisor constantly regarding output to maintain flexibility and updating program requirements
