Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Assists with the performance of roadway and right-of-way maintenance
  • Operates 6- and 12-yard dump trucks
  • Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment
  • Assists with the set up and maintenance of traffic control signs and barricades in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD)
  • Performs basic computer skills including, but not limited to, checking email and electronic timekeeping
  • Under close supervision, enters data into the roadway asset management system
  • Provides assistance during emergency events (i.e. flooding, ice storm, etc.)
  • Transports equipment, supplies and/or materials in light to medium trucks
  • Complies with departmental and county safety standards
  • Communicates effectively with the public and other employees
  • Attends all meetings and trainings, as required

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of related work experience
  • Working knowledge of specific job-related technology
  • Must have a valid state drivers license
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English Language

Physical Demands:

  • Position involves stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, climbing, driving and lifting up to 100 pounds

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):

  • Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather
  • Individuals may be exposed to heat, cold, loud noise, dust and hazardous chemicals

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Required within sixty (60) days of employment
    • Texas Class “A” CDL with Tanker Endorsements
    • First Aid and CPR

Required Equipment:

  • Must furnish a working cell phone capable of receiving and sending phone calls and text messages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in a related field
  • One years’ experience in crew-specific tasks and the operation of related equipment
  • Knowledge of roadway construction
  • Commercial Herbicide Applicator’s License
