Your contribution!

This role is integral to the safe and efficient operation of Innergex’s hydroelectric facilities. Working closely with the Operations Manager and site team, the Operator will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing plant performance at our Toba site. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring reliable energy production by conducting preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and coordinating with contractors and technical specialists.

A strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving will be essential for success. The Operator will gain hands-on experience with hydroelectric systems and contribute directly to Innergex’s mission of generating clean, renewable energy. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a remote natural setting while collaborating with a passionate team committed to sustainability and operational excellence.

Your day-to-day!

  • Operate and monitor hydroelectric power generation systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous operation through routine inspections, performance tracking, and accurate documentation of all operational and maintenance activities;
  • Participate in the set-up and monitoring of a Preventative Maintenance program for plants and facilities equipment, including the mechanical testing and repair of equipment;
  • Read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pneumatic and hydraulic drawings;
  • Carry out all necessary actions for the troubleshooting and resolution of alarms generated by the hydroelectric power plants to minimize downtime (availability 24 hours a day) when on duty;
  • Manage and/or assist any specialized contractors needed to perform maintenance and repairs at the power plants;
  • Participate in the daily work planning and operations activities;
  • Assist in the management of overflow camp facilities for contractors and visitors;
  • Adhere to and implement the Occupational Health and Safety standards at Innergex;
  • Adhere to a variable work schedule and reside at the Innergex residence while at the facility.

Your skills, our requirements!

  • Completion of training as a Red Seal Industrial Electrician or equivalent, required;
  • Experience with hydro plant operations, an asset;
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant or equivalent training and experience to the role;
  • Must be a “hands-on”, self-starter;
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, and computer);
  • Comfortable in spending many consecutives days in a remote camp location;
  • Commitment to further education relevant to the role: Innergex provides formal and in-house training, as required;
  • Relevant or equivalent training and experience to the role, experience as a Journeyman Industrial Electrician is preferred;
  • Possess a BC driver’s license in good standing as well as a general appreciation for outdoors;
  • Experience with 4-wheel drives and snowmobiles is required (Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s licence, Level 3 crane operator an asset);
  • Experience in instrumentation, an asset;
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic control systems and other related devices, an asset;
  • Experience with welding and fabrication, an asset;
  • Staying in Camp on an 8 days in / 6 days out schedule;
  • Traveling in an out of site via forest service roads;
  • Advanced First Aid (level 3) would be an asset;
  • Combination of indoor hydro facility, outdoor and office work;
  • Basic computer skills.

  • The position is based at our Toba site in British Columbia.
  • This position is an O3 level.

Pay Transparency Statement

Compensation for roles at Innergex varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, and level of experience.We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.

In the spirit of pay transparency we are excited to share that the base salary for the position is $ 80 000 - $102 000, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired by Innergex, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.

Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
