We have an exciting opportunity for an Operator Gr1 Hauling (FTE). The purpose of this role is to Safely operate mining equipment/vehicles to contribute to the achievement of operational targets.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

As our Operator Gr1 Hauling (FTE) your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Follow SHE standards and specific legislation related to vehicle control.
  • Adhere, read, and sign all appropriate work instructions and standards.
  • Attend Safety meetings with the supervisor and team and ensure adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Effectively identify hazards and safety deviations in the area of responsibility.
  • Apply SLAM/HIRA/Mini HIRA correctly and report any safety or health-related issues.
  • Take all necessary safety precautions when working on auxiliary equipment.
  • Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.

Equipment Operations

  • Operate and control equipment and vehicles safely to transport materials, components, and equipment as instructed, ensuring compliance with procedures, specifications, requirements, timeframes, and budgetary limits.
  • Communicate with mine personnel to coordinate and ensure safe operations.
  • Prepare and load production areas according to operational plans.

Equipment Inspection

  • Conduct thorough pre-shift and walk-around inspections to ensure equipment functionality and safety, complying with regulations and prescribed standards to prevent damage, injury, or financial loss.
  • Report deviations or defects in equipment and components to the supervisor to ensure timely remedial actions.

Assistance

  • Provide support to supervisors and co-workers within your area of competence or, when delegated, adhere to company policies to achieve functional objectives.

Housekeeping

  • Clean equipment and machinery after use according to prescribed standards.
  • Perform cleaning activities beyond allocated areas as required.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of safety signs and equipment to ensure visibility and functionality.

Equipment Maintenance and Validation

  • Report maintenance requirements to the supervisor promptly to ensure timely remedial actions and optimal equipment performance.
  • Ensure operating conditions and environments comply with supplier specifications and quality system requirements to prevent deviations or equipment damage. Report any non-conformances for corrective action.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance during breakdowns or shutdowns to minimise production impacts.

Compliance

  • Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and promote team compliance.
  • Conduct site inspections to identify non-compliance issues and escalate them as required.
  • Implement corrective actions to address non-compliance and maintain regulatory adherence.

This role is in Mining (MIN) department on a band P5 (B-Upper) level reporting to the Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12/N3 Technical
  • SA Drivers Licence
  • Kumba Dover Certificate
  • Fitness Certificate
  • Relevant HME Licences
  • Competency A (advantageous)

Technical Knowledge

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in hauling in a mining environment.
  • Proficiency in operating earthmoving equipment.
  • Familiarity with various types of equipment and tools.
  • Competence in radio communication procedures.
  • Ability to perform shift inspections according to procedures.
  • Proficiency in lock-out procedures for equipment maintenance.
  • Familiarity with the layout of the work section.
  • Understanding of mining equipment and its operation.
  • Adherence to safety standards in the workplace.
  • Capability to identify and solve problems related to equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
