Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and safety-conscious Equipment Operator to join our field operations team. This role is essential to the successful and safe installation of underground utilities and infrastructure. The Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating heavy machinery to support utility construction projects while working closely with field crews to ensure efficiency and compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and loaders on job sites to support trenching, excavation, backfill, and material handling
• Perform safe digging practices around underground utilities based on utility locator markings and guidance
• Load, unload, and transport materials and tools to and from job sites
• Backfill trenches and restore job sites to pre-construction conditions
• Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance of assigned equipment to ensure safe operation
• Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of all assigned machinery
• Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and maintain job site productivity
• Follow all company, OSHA, and DOT safety protocols and procedures
• Assist with general labor tasks and job site setup as needed
• Maintain accurate logs and reports related to equipment use, maintenance, and safety inspections

Requirements

• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment
• OSHA 10 Required, OHSA 30 preferred
• Experience in utility construction preferred (Electric, Gas, Telecom, or Civil)
• Strong understanding of safe digging practices and OSHA excavation standards
• Ability to read and follow job site plans, utility markings, and verbal instructions
• Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain)
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and DMV driving record review
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and team-oriented attitude
