of Role
This role reports to the Asia Metals Team Leader, or to another Senior Operator as designated by the Global Head of Metals Operations, the incumbent will support the Specialty Ores trading desk in ensuring flawless execution of physical trades. The role is responsible for operational planning, scheduling, documentation, cargo movement, and issue resolution across the supply chain.
The position is well suited to an experienced bulk operator with background in Iron Ore preferably, but other bulk experience will be considered. The successful candidate will ensure that operational risks are identified early and mitigated, supports trader strategies through timely and accurate execution, and maintains strong relationships with internal teams, customers, service providers, and logistical partners.
Main Responsibilities
- Report required information from Operations processes to Team Leader or as designated by the Global Head of Metals Operations, as part of core activities, on a daily basis.
- Acts as a reliable point of contact for routine internal and external inquiries on the desk. Maintain close communications with customers and upon necessity informing customers of problems and issues risen from fulfilment of contracts concluded with them.
- Maintain close communication and collaboration with Traders and relevant teams, proactively providing creative solutions to support smooth operational cooperation.
- Serves as a point of contact for internal or external issues or disputes for the team. Participate in regular team meetings helping to ensure that any operational issues (internal and external) are addressed and resolved.
- Provide team coverage as workload's demand.
- Ensure compliance with cargo shipment procedures, industry standards, and transport regulations, while applying knowledge of truck, rail, and maritime operations, relevant transport laws, and technical terminology.
- Manage cargo inventory and operations interacting with ports/terminals, agents, cargo inspectors, and international legal restrictions on vessels/trucks/rail used for cargo shipments.
- Optimize trader strategies by utilizing knowledge of product movement and relationships with external parties, while accounting for the dynamics of delivery and supply, and resolving and communicating any transport issues that arise with traders.
- Responsible for reviewing trade recaps, confirmations, and contracts to ensure accurate execution and compliance; coordinating with the internal Credit team to confirm the issuance of Letters of Credit and managing the collection and presentation of required documentation under documentary letters of credit; performing product movement reconciliations with a strong analytical approach; and supporting Loss Control investigations as needed.
- Maintain an accurate and up to date account of storage positions, Product movement positions, review all accruals in the system, ensuring proper costs have been booked against each trade / strategy or storage facility.
- Responsible for reconciling month-end inventory, identifying and correcting discrepancies, and working closely with Traders to communicate and align on forward inventory projections.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned by Team Lead and the Global Head of Metals Operations.
- Cross train on other metal and/or minerals in order to be able to provide cover and support out of Shanghai office for the whole of Gunvor’s Asia metals business.

Profile
The individual should have the following experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Maritime Studies, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5-6 years of operational experience in commodities trading, ideally in Iron Ore, Specialty Ores, Dry Bulk, or Metals.
- Experience managing multimodal logistics (truck, rail, barge, ocean freight) and dealing with international terminals, inspectors, and agents.
- Deep understanding of bulk commodity specifications, sampling, inspection standards, and quality-control processes.
- Strong command of shipment regulations, port operations, and maritime terminology.
- Ability to calculate freight, demurrage, insurance, and cargo-related costs accurately.
- Skilled in interpreting LC requirements and executing documentary compliance.
- Strong analytical capabilities for reconciling inventory, stock movements, and loss investigations.
- Proactive, autonomous, and solution-oriented approach; able to anticipate and resolve issues.
- High level of accountability and attention to detail, particularly under time pressure.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to maintain a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Experience with CTRM/ETRM systems (e.g., Aspect, OpenLink, Allegro, EKA).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel advanced level preferred).
- Familiarity with global trade documentation systems is an asset.
- English written and oral skills, ability to understand Mandarin (to liaise with Mandarin speaking associates)
