Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an Operations Technician for its Garyville, LA facility.

The Garyville SMR facility is a Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) with Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) for purification. The site is connected to an existing hydrogen pipeline system spanning from New Orleans to the Houston Ship Channel, supplying hydrogen to customers across the Gulf Coast through an integrated distribution network.

You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting plant equipment and systems. This role provides hands-on technical support to continuously improve plant operations, maintenance efficiency, equipment integrity, reliability, cost performance, and on-stream factor.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a key member of the Site Safety Committee, supporting and promoting the site’s overall safety performance.
  • Support daily plant operations to ensure achievement of on-stream, production, and reliability targets.
  • Investigate equipment failures, determine root causes, and recommend solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Complete work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, maintaining accurate performance and applying continuous improvement principles.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns, providing technical and hands-on support as needed.
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise for production units to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Follow established operating procedures and ensure compliance at all times.
  • Promote and uphold all safety rules and regulations.
  • This is a 12-hour rotating shift position, reporting to the Site Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate in Process Technology or a maintenance-related field preferred, or a minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, production, processing, or chemical/petrochemical environments.
  • Participation in SkillsUSA is encouraged.
  • Strong mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical aptitude preferred.
  • Proven dedication to safety and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work weekends and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with plant or refinery instrumentation and electrical systems strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts including nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Be able to meet call-in requirements as needed.
  • Elevated work required.
