Job Description

The successful candidate must provide technical assistance and overall direction to a team of hourly representative employees. Core to this position is the successful performance of the team's Safety, Quality, Cost, schedule and Continuous Improvement. Effective communication, leadership, creating a positive team environment with employees and peers in key to success for the selected candidate. The position of Operations Supervisor provides a platform to gain a working knowledge of various manufacturing environments and their relationships with other parts of Electric Boats business. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or experienced trades-person to advance into a career-building leadership position and gain invaluable experience to support their career development.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the activities of approximately 15 Pipewelders in the performance of Purging, welding and inspecting Pipe Joints on board submarines
  • Primary point of contact to interface with Engineering, Ships Management, Quality and other trade departments
  • Lead the team to achievement of company goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Process Improvement
  • Take ownership of team performance
  • Assign work, provide technical expertise, instruction, mentor-ship, motivation and performance assessment of your Employee(s) while working aboard submarines under construction and repair
  • Lead self-assessment audits, commit to schedules and maintain product quality
  • Attend various administrative responsibility, such as LMS, Quality documentation, work completion documentation, etc
  • May be required to qualify and maintain Nuclear Trade and PRCS training
  • Must be willing to work all shifts and travel as required

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Must meet one of the following:

  • Minimum 1 year trade experience at electric boat
  • Minimum of 3 year combined relevant experience and leadership experience in a high-volume setting
  • Minimum of 1 year EB experience and an Engineering degree in a related field

Preferred:

  • BS in Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of management tools (i.e., MRP, Artemis, EWP or other EB specific tools)
  • Knowledge of Pipe Welding, particularly in welding with consumable inserts

Skills

  • Ability to build a strong, cohesive team and drive them toward a high level of performance
  • Ability to analyze performance data, formulate process improvement ideas and continuously improve performance
  • Ability communication with all levels of workforce and management
  • Good interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal skills
  • Able to climb and work aboard submarines under construction or repair
