Job Description

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Valid Hawaii Driver's License (Class 3 or higher) with acceptable driving record.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to obtain required operational certifications and qualifications.
  • Ability to pass drug screening, background check, driver abstract review, and maintain TWIC credentials.
  • Must successfully complete required physical capacity testing.

Preferred Requirements

  • Associate degree, trade certification, military leadership training, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in aggregate, ready-mix, construction materials, transportation, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
  • Experience in a union environment.
  • Mechanical, welding, fabrication, equipment operation, or maintenance experience.
  • NRMCA, MSHA, OSHA, DOT, environmental, Lean Six Sigma, or leadership certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ready-Mix Concrete Department:

  • Supervises ready-mix production, dispatch coordination, transportation operations, fleet utilization, delivery performance, and customer service activities to ensure customers receive quality products safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Coordinates production schedules, plant maintenance, equipment availability, repair priorities, housekeeping activities, and operational resources to maximize productivity, service performance, and profitability.
  • Works closely with Quality Control, Sales, and Maintenance personnel to achieve safety, quality, customer service, and financial objectives.
  • Monitors key performance indicators including safety performance, delivery efficiency, fleet utilization, labor productivity, equipment availability, operational costs, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures employees are properly trained, qualified, and operating safely while performing Dispatcher and Batch Plant Operator duties in accordance with union agreements and established past practices.
  • Maintains compliance with all applicable OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, EPA, State, and Company safety, environmental, quality, and operational requirements

Aggregate Operations Department (Portable Plant, Finish Plant, and Waikapu Quarry):

  • Supervises the daily operation of the Portable Plant, Finish Plant, and Waikapu Quarry, including quarry development, harvesting, blasting, crushing, screening, processing, inventory management, and aggregate production activities.
  • Coordinates production schedules, equipment utilization, maintenance priorities, plant relocations, repair activities, and operational resources to maximize production efficiency, product quality, equipment availability, and overall departmental performance.
  • Monitors key performance indicators, inventory levels, production results, and quality standards to ensure operational objectives are achieved.
  • Ensures employees are properly trained, qualified, and operating safely while performing bargaining unit work in accordance with union agreements and established past practices.
  • Maintains compliance with all applicable MSHA, EPA, State, and Company safety, environmental, and operational requirements.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Monitors productivity, equipment utilization, labor efficiency, and department KPIs.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities, equipment repairs, contractor services, and operational resources.
  • Conducts workplace inspections to identify hazards and maintain compliance.
  • Investigates incidents and operational issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Lead, coach, and develop employees
  • Administer bargaining unit provisions, address grievances, and support labor-management initiatives.
  • Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Execute continuous improvement and Lean Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Respond to emergencies, weather events, production interruptions, and operational challenges.
  • Maintain positive customer relations and support efficient, profitable operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of construction materials operations, equipment utilization, and resource management.
  • Ability to analyze operational, safety, quality, and financial performance and implement corrective action.

  • Ability to conduct investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning.

  • Ability to successfully complete Company Leadership Development and Continuous Improvement programs.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply operational procedures, manuals, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Ready-Mix Operations - Obtain and maintain NRMCA Plant Manager Certification, Qualify as Dispatcher and Batch Plant Operator, Complete NRMCA safety and dispatch training requirements.
  • Aggregate Operations - Obtain and maintain Crusher Operator II and Loader Operator qualifications.
