About the role

DP World Fremantle is seeking a dedicated Operations Supervisor to provide effective leadership, planning, coordination and oversight of all stevedoring operations. The Operations Supervisor supports the Senior Manager of Operations and Operations Superintendent and ensures all activities are executed with precision, timeliness, and in full compliance with company policies, legislative obligations, and client requirements. The Operations Supervisor also plays a key role in managing client relationships, leading operational inquiries, and overseeing the seamless execution of vessel and yard operations to uphold service excellence and operational integrity.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, sound operational judgment, and the ability to perform under pressure in a 24/7 terminal environment. They should show a clear understanding of stevedoring operations, safety compliance, and industrial relations, along with proven experience coordinating complex logistics. A results-driven mindset, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily operational activities to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance with company standards.
  • Allocate resources and assign tasks to meet operational targets, KPIs, and customer requirements.
  • Lead by example to promote a strong safety culture and operational discipline.
  • Manage operations to achieve maximum productivity based on the terminal plan for their shift and beyond in a safe manner
  • Monitor daily performance against operational plans and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure operational procedures and work instructions are followed and maintained.
  • Report on performance metrics, downtime, and productivity outcomes.
  • Support customer service objectives through effective scheduling and coordination.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance service delivery.
  • Support implementation of new systems, processes, and technologies.
  • Drive, meet or exceed budget targets for operational costs associated with vessel and landside operations.
  • Work with National Continuous Improvement team to drive process improvements and efficiencies
  • Work in partnership with Commercial teams to improve customer service

Qualifications, Skills, Experience

  • Strong leadership experience in large scale and high hazard 24x7 operations
  • Substantial experience in a similar role within an industrial, unionised environment.
  • Experience in workplace communication and consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading and managing change
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to the receipt and delivery of cargo
  • Knowledge of terminal yard and vessel operations, vessel planning principles and capabilities of cargo handling equipment
  • Detailed understanding of legal obligations, commercial and contractual issues relating to stevedoring operation
  • Proven ability to undertake investigations regarding incidents and near misses
  • Knowledge of relevant jurisdictional OHS&E Acts and regulations, dangerous goods regulations and Company policy
  • Sound computer skills in the Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to the receipt and delivery of cargo
  • Knowledge of terminal yard and vessel operations, vessel planning principles and capabilities of cargo handling equipment
  • Detailed understanding of legal obligations, commercial and contractual issues relating to stevedoring operations
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
