Job Description

Cleanaway, in partnership with Brisbane City Council through the Resource Recovery Innovation Alliance (RRIA), operates some of the most heavily trafficked and operationally complex Resource Recovery Facilities in Queensland.

We’re expanding our site leadership capability and are looking for two experienced Operations Supervisors to join the leadership teams at Ferny Grove and Chandler Resource Recovery Facilities.

These are not entry level supervisory roles. They are hands on leadership positions for people who are comfortable operating in highly dynamic environments, making real‑time decisions, managing risk and leading crews through busy public facing operations where safety and control matter every minute of the day.

About Cleanaway & the Alliance

Cleanaway is Australia’s largest waste management, industrial and environmental services organisation. ASX‑listed and employing more than 10,000 people nationwide, we deliver essential services that support millions of households, businesses and communities.

Through the Brisbane Resource Recovery Innovation Alliance, Cleanaway works in close partnership with Brisbane City Council to operate critical waste and resource recovery infrastructure. Alliance sites are highly governed, highly visible and often the proving ground for new safety systems, operational improvements and resource recovery initiatives.

For the right leader, this environment offers exposure, challenge and genuine career opportunity.

The Opportunity

As an Operations Supervisor at Ferny Grove or Chandler, you will be a core member of the site leadership team responsible for daily operational control, workforce leadership, safety performance and customer interface.

Both facilities operate at scale, with high volumes of public traffic, heavy vehicles, mobile plant and diverse waste streams. You’ll be relied on to maintain safe systems of work, manage competing priorities and support teams through peak demand while keeping the site running smoothly, efficiently and safely.

This role suits leaders who prefer to be on the floor, setting standards, coaching people, managing risk and solving problems as they arise not supervising from a distance.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Leading daily site operations to ensure safe and efficient movement of people, vehicles and mobile plant
  • Owning site safety performance and enforcing Cleanaway and Alliance HSE systems and standards
  • Managing traffic management plans and Mobile Plant & People Interaction (MPPI) controls
  • Running toolbox talks, safety interactions, inspections and incident investigations
  • Coordinating waste intake, stockpile management and outbound material flows
  • Managing public tipping operations and maintaining a safe, orderly customer environment
  • Monitoring throughput, waste segregation and recovery performance
  • Supporting workforce rostering, capability development and performance management
  • Partnering with site management to deliver continuous improvement across safety, operations and customer outcomes

About you

You’re a practical, confident operational leader who is comfortable making decisions in live environments and holding the line on safety and standards.

You bring:

  • Proven experience in an operational or supervisory role within logistics, infrastructure, industrial operations, waste, transport or similar environments
  • Strong safety instincts and the confidence to intervene, redirect and escalate when required
  • Experience coordinating people, heavy vehicles, contractors and mobile plant in shared workspaces
  • Clear, calm communication skills and the ability to engage positively with staff, contractors and the public
  • Strong organisation, situational awareness and resilience under pressure
  • A mindset focused on accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement

Experience within resource recovery, waste or council facing operations is advantageous, but strong operational leadership capability is the priority.

Why join us?

  • Competitive salary package
  • Permanent full‑time roles with long‑term security
  • Leadership positions at two of Brisbane’s most significant resource recovery facilities
  • Tool of trade vehicle will be provided to travel across sites
  • Genuine career pathways across operations, safety, projects and broader Alliance roles
  • Supportive leadership environment with strong governance and safety culture
  • Paid parental leave and flexible working arrangements
  • Industry‑leading benefits including employee share plans, salary packaging, health insurance discounts, EAP and more

Our commitment to inclusion
