Job Description

At WM New Zealand, we are the largest composter, the largest waste-to-energy provider and have the largest commercial electric fleet in New Zealand, all powered by electricity from waste. As a team, we are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to redirect, neutralise and use waste.

Join New Zealand’s leading sustainability company and make a real impact as part of our Operations team. This is a hands‑on, collaborative role where you will partner closely with Operations and Finance to turn data into practical insights that improve business performance.

You will analyse operational data, develop meaningful KPIs and dashboards, and support continuous improvement across the organisation. A good understanding of New Zealand geography, particularly the North Island, is important, as the role supports region‑based operations, routes, and service delivery.

This role suits someone who is a strong team player, comfortable working with frontline operations, and focused on practical, data‑driven outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing operational data to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Partnering with Operations and Finance to align operational and financial performance
  • Developing and delivering KPIs, reports, and dashboards, including customer profitability insights
  • Applying NZ and North Island geographic knowledge to performance, route, and regional analysis
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and problem resolution
  • Preparing clear reports and insights for leaders and key stakeholders
  • Improving data management, reporting efficiency, and automation where possible

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • At least 1–2+ years’ experience in a service‑based, operational, or analytical environment, with exposure to real‑world business processes
  • A tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Data Science, Commerce, or a related discipline
  • A strong learning mindset — curious, motivated, and keen to absorb knowledge, ask questions, and continuously improve
  • A proactive, “go‑getter” attitude, with the confidence to take ownership, follow issues through, and contribute ideas
  • Proven ability to work effectively in team environments, collaborating closely with Operations, Finance, and other stakeholders
  • Strong Excel skills, including data analysis, modelling, and reporting (e.g. pivot tables, formulas, structured datasets)
  • Exposure to Power BI, with experience building or supporting reports and dashboards
  • Some experience or familiarity with GIS or spatial data, and an interest in applying geographic insights to operational analysis
  • Experience writing simple SQL queries to extract and analyse data
  • Solid reporting and analytical capability, with good numerical and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate data into clear, practical insights for non‑technical audiences
  • A good eye for detail, balanced with the ability to see the bigger picture when making recommendations
  • An interest in process improvement and the ability to quickly understand workflows and identify opportunities for automation or efficiency gains

In this role, you’ll manage core BAU analysis and reporting while also contributing to key projects and continuous improvement initiatives. If you’re motivated, collaborative, and looking to grow your career in a hands‑on operational environment, we’d love to hear from you.
