Job Description

The Operations Manager – Plumbing & Utilities provides leadership and oversight for LSU’s campus-wide plumbing and utility systems, including daily operations, preventive and corrective maintenance, emergency response, workforce management, contractor coordination, and infrastructure projects. The position ensures safe, reliable, and code-compliant operation of domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, natural gas, utility piping, pumps, valves, and related systems while coordinating with Facilities Operations, Engineering, EHS, contractors, and campus stakeholders. The Operations Manager also provides technical leadership, manages resources, develops staff, and drives continuous improvement in safety, reliability, efficiency, and customer service.

Job Duties:

Contract Management: Manage plumbing and utility service contracts, including scope development, procurement support, contractor coordination, performance monitoring, renewals, and compliance with LSU requirements. -30%

Billing and Financial Management: Review and approve contractor invoices, utility-related charges, purchase orders, and expenditures to ensure accuracy, proper documentation, and alignment with contract terms and approved budgets. -25%

Project Support: Provide operational and technical support for plumbing and utility projects by assisting with scope development, cost estimates, scheduling, contractor coordination, field verification, and project closeout.. -10%

Contractor Performance: Monitor contractor performance, work quality, schedules, safety, and deliverables; address deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions when necessary. -10%

Budget and Work Planning: Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, project prioritization, and resource planning for plumbing and utility maintenance, contracts, and capital improvements. -10%

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of contracts, invoices, project costs, work orders, inspections, and supporting documentation while providing status updates and reports to leadership.- 10%

Perform additional duties as assigned. -5%

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of related experience

Minimum Licenses

Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of professional level experience

Special or Physical Qualifications:

  • This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
  • This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
  • This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
