  • This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates only, as a genuine occupational requirement as this role leads teams working directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, so it must be held by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to support self-determination and Indigenous-led service delivery.

  • Full-time, Permanent with a Base salary will be in the range $117,958 - $132,247 + 17% super (HEW Level 8)

  • Based at our Vibrant St Lucia Campus.

About This Opportunity

The Operations and Student Success Manager plays a critical leadership role within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit (ATSISU), providing high‑level operational and strategic support to the Director.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day running of ATSISU while contributing to the development and delivery of strategic initiatives that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student success, engagement, and retention.

Leading a dedicated Student Success team, the role balances people leadership, operational oversight, and stakeholder engagement to deliver high‑quality, culturally safe services aligned with UQ’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting high‑performing teams in dynamic environments, with a strong focus on service excellence.

  • Managing day‑to‑day operations through effective planning, organisation and prioritisation.

  • Communicating clearly and professionally, using strong written and verbal skills to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Applying sound judgement and cultural capability when managing sensitive matters, with a demonstrated respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and identities.

About You

The University of Queensland considers that to perform this role; it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

  • Proven experience leading and managing teams within a larger, multifaceted organisation, with a focus on service excellence.

  • Strong operational, planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building capability across diverse groups.

  • Sound judgement and confidence in managing sensitive and complex matters.

  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to influence, advise and represent the Unit professionally.

  • A demonstrated understanding and acceptance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and identities.
