Job Description

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing recycling and other post-collection activities within the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The incumbent will collaborate with the Division or Market Area Manager and other managers in the business unit to execute the division strategy to produce marketable commodities and implement tactical initiatives to drive functional excellence and budget achievement. Hiring range $82,000 - $106,000 Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction for any employer. We are not able to provide visa sponsorship or assume existing sponsorships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees all operations staff to provide leadership for the recycling and other post-collections operations of a Materials Recycling Facility.
  • Manages staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management, to develop supervisory goals and objectives and to effectively resolve safety issues and claims.
  • Provide training to employees to ensure adherence to all accident/injury prevention programs and safety regulations.
  • Implements and executes plans to complement the business unit’s strategic and operating plan in order to lead the execution of tactical initiatives within the business unit to maximize the customer experience, growth and durability, while optimizing profitability
  • Manages loads that need to be picked up to ensure the timely and efficient movement of materials.
  • Manages productivity and adjusts transportation assets as necessary to maintain efficiency.
  • Manages the routing, movement and tracking of inbound and outbound loads between sites and adjusts schedules and drop off locations to ensure volume and customer commitments are met.
  • Manage and develop strong relationships with haulers and disposal sites to ensure adequate transportation and disposal site availability and also achieve the best transportation value.
  • Reviews and measures daily productivity and material quality to increase efficiency.
  • Oversees drivers to ensure safety and operational goals are being met.
  • Performs all onboarding procedures with newly hired drivers to ensure an understanding of Casella’s core values.
  • Monitors and coaches the driver’s performance and behaviors, recommends training or retraining as needed to ensure compliance with all company and safety policies.
  • Investigate all accidents, customer and driver disputes, and complaints, and ensure all applicable documentation is completed in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to operating standards and manages labor hours to ensure maximum productivity and route management systems for commercial and roll-off routes.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or, in lieu of a degree, an associate’s degree, 3 years of experience in the transportation or logistics industry, and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment.

Excellent problem-solving, organizational, listening, verbal, and written communication skills are required. Proven commitment to work and safety, a strong understanding of state legal load limits, DOT requirements, logistics, and transportation equipment are necessary. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office 365 and related platforms is necessary.
