Job Description

KEYT News Channel 3 seeks a talented individual to join our team as our Operations Manager/Senior Director.

The Operations Manager ensures that our news and entertainment products are delivered accurately to the company's technical standard as well as maintaining daily technical operations needs and staff management within the Operations department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comply with all FCC regulations as instructed.
  • Ensure that specified technical procedures and company policies are being satisfied by the General Manager and Corporate Director of Technical Operations.
  • Managing and scheduling Master Control and Operations staff; including hiring, scheduling, training, and guidance.
  • Work with News Director and Creative Services Director to execute technically correct programs.
  • Responsible for understanding and training of operations-based server functions including maintaining server space, purging in-active material, and general media management.
  • Prioritizes daily media needs, including creating/updating satellite and online record schedules, as well as understanding digital delivery workflows to verify all content needed is in the system.
  • Technical training initiatives to ensure Master Control Operators and Operations staff members understand systems and hardware within all operational areas.
  • Work with Chief Engineer and IT Manager to create, implement and oversee Standard Operating Procedures for processes and workflows.
  • Reports on all on-air discrepancies promptly to fellow Department Managers and General Manager. Weekly review of operations procedures and discrepancies with GM and management team.
  • Able to perform job duties of Directors and Operations when necessary for special events, time off and emergency situations.
  • Overseeing closed captioning requirements and reports as required by the FCC.
  • Supervising, coaching and performance reviews of all Operations Staff.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Master Control, News Control booth or similar broadcast environment. Additional management experience is preferred.
  • Skills: Basic computer skills required, advanced understanding of computer information systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge broadcast automation and workflows as well as news automation and workflows preferred.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which can include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Operational management experience preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds unassisted.

Work Environment

The nature of this position requires the employee to typically work in an administrative office environment as well as in a news operation and master control facility; however, on occasion you may be required to move Studio Lights or repositions camera equipment and/or other sections of the studio set, or work in remote locations for in-the-field production.

Pay Range: $75k - $82.5k annually. Based on experience.
