Job Description

ABM Industries is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the daily operations of the Electrical Power Services business. This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, engineering, protection and controls, and power systems projects.

The Operations Manager provides leadership and oversight for project execution, workforce planning, customer satisfaction, operational performance, safety compliance, and financial results. This role collaborates with project managers, field supervisors, technical personnel, business development teams, and customers to ensure successful project delivery and achievement of business objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the execution of electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, engineering, and power systems projects.
  • Manage operational performance, workforce utilization, customer satisfaction, and profitability for assigned business operations.
  • Lead project managers, field supervisors, project coordinators, and technical personnel to ensure successful project execution.
  • Monitor project schedules, staffing levels, backlog, labor utilization, and resource allocation.
  • Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, workforce development, and employee retention initiatives.
  • Establish operational goals and performance expectations for assigned personnel.
  • Review operational metrics and implement corrective actions to improve performance, productivity, and profitability.
  • Collaborate with business development personnel to support sales efforts, customer relationships, proposals, and project opportunities.
  • Support project planning, staffing, equipment allocation, and resource forecasting.
  • Ensure projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Review project financial performance, forecasts, labor utilization, and operational reporting.
  • Support customer issue resolution and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, operational performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, operational reviews, business planning activities, and strategic initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, field service, utility operations, industrial maintenance, engineering services, power systems, or related industries.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience managing technical personnel, project teams, or field operations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, field service operations, project execution, and customer service.
  • Experience managing operational performance, workforce utilization, budgets, and project financials.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems, and operational reporting tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel as required to support customer sites, project locations, business operations, and employee development activities.
  • Ability to work in electrical rooms, substations, industrial facilities, construction sites, outdoor environments, and mission-critical facilities.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, and navigate active job sites and industrial environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc-flash and electrical safety equipment, when visiting project sites.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and outage schedules as required to support business operations.

Career Progression

The Operations Manager role serves as a leadership position within Electrical Power Services and may progress to Senior Operations Manager, Regional Operations Manager, Director of Operations, General Manager, or other senior leadership roles based on demonstrated performance, experience, and business needs.
