Job Purpose
The Operations Manager for the Rail & Technology Systems line of business will be responsible for growing and strengthening the foundation of our business and our core business capabilities across Train Control Systems, Signalling, Facilities Management, Products & Manufacturing, Operations & Maintenance, Asset Management, and Remote Rail Crossing Systems (RAXS JV).
This role will be responsible for sourcing, securing and the successful delivery of identified opportunities and will drive the performance and growth of the business unit. The role will lead and develop a team of people, provide technical expertise, establish strong client relationships and recurring revenue streams that support larger strategic growth opportunities. Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the safe, efficient and profitable delivery of all core capability operations for the Rail & Technology Systems (RTS) business unit.
Ensure the safe execution of works to deliver on UGL Transports project obligations.
Develop and execute operational growth strategies that expand RTS's national core capabilities footprint whilst creating revenue streams.
Build and manage customer and external stakeholder relationships, and act as the primary operational interface for key customers, ensuring high levels of service delivery, customer satisfaction and contract retention.
Oversee resource planning and workforce allocation to optimise utilisation across projects, maintenance contracts, manufacturing activities and operational support services.
Identify, assess and pursue new business opportunities within existing and emerging markets, working closely with commercial and business development teams to convert opportunities into sustainable revenue.
Manage operational risks, contractual obligations and compliance requirements, ensuring all activities are delivered in accordance with safety, quality, customer and regulatory expectations.
Develop UGL Transport’s Signalling and TCS capabilities nationally, grow existing signalling and TCS team members and develop a strong presence and sustainable business nationally.
Promote RTS's differentiated capabilities and technical expertise, leveraging established client relationships, proven rail delivery experience and innovative solutions such as integrated signalling, train control and asset management services to strengthen market position.
Collaborate with the UGL Transport leadership team and other pillar leaders in work winning opportunities, team development, business development and project management.
Build and develop a high-performing national team, providing leadership, mentoring, succession planning and capability development across multiple disciplines.
Establish appropriate and effective KPI’s for all direct team members that allow performance to be clearly measured.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree level or higher in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, or a Business related field – (Mandatory).
Demonstrated experience working as an Operations Manager or Senior Project Manager in a contracting environment.
Rail and signalling/TCS experience and exposure to multidisciplinary functions – (Preferred).
A strong passion to succeed and drive the business growth

This role will suit an experienced Operations Manager in the rail space looking to be part of a rapidly growing business unit in a diverse Engineering company across Australia and overseas.

You may also be a Senior Project Manager looking for that next step up into this highly visible position reporting directly to the GM of the business.
