Job Title: Operations Manager

EDP Renewables is a global leader in the renewable energy sector and the fourth-largest wind energy producer. The Operations Manager, has full responsibility for EDPR North America’s Solar Field Operations. You will define and build an efficient O&M organization to meet the company’s growth targets and to ensure that the solar operating fleet maintains high availability and efficiency performance.

Main responsibilities:


-Ensure service providers and internal personnel follow proper safety protocols and complete their work with a Safety First attention to detail and procedures
-Oversee selection, productivity, and professional development of all Solar Operations personnel, including site managers, lead technicians, technicians, and administrative assistants
-Ensure optimum efficiency and maximum generation availability of the company’s current and future solar parks
-Ensure that contracts with service providers (e.g., Solar O&M, balance-of-plant) are effectively managed on a day-to-day basis
-Ensure solar projects that are operated by internal staff are effectively managed on a day to day basis
-Update and modify SOPs that cover Solar Operations
-Drive and enforce key approval processes, ensuring there is proper transparency with operations decisions and activities
-Responsible for operational excellence programs, supplier management programs, the best practices manual, and the SOP manual
-Manage site-level transitions from contracted to self-perform service
-Ensure that operating expenses stay within the approved budget
-Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across Safety, Performance, Financial, Process and People areas for Operations personnel and ensure the solar team is held accountable to the defined KPIs
-Responsible for properly aligning key managers’ compensation with metrics and goals
-Define and implement operational/metric programs to reach the continual company goal of 97% availability
-Ensure that field personnel complete all daily activities safely and in compliance with industry and corporate standards
-Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the Company’s values, Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.

What are we looking for

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible operational experience, including 5 years of managerial experience
  • Considerable knowledge of Six Sigma and other quality management processes
  • Experience managing a geographically diverse manufacturing operation with minimum staff of 40 (distributed power production preferred)
  • Experience with both direct and contract manufacturing preferred

  • Strong organizational and high attention to detail
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills including use of PC software such as Excel to perform analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional, multi-departmental teams
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively with minimal direction in both structured and unstructured work environments
  • Ability to lead, delegate, and set goals and targets
  • Ability to lead and support complex negotiations
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to foster and help create a collaborative working environment
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products preferred.
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred

Physical demands & working conditions:

  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary

Salary hiring range: $113,120- $141,400
Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry and are one part of many compensation, benefits, and other reward opportunities we provide. Individual pay rate decisions are based on several factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect most of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors.
