Job Description

Power stations don't run themselves — and neither does the team that keeps them running. As an Operations Manager with GE Vernova, you'll be the operational backbone of a power station, ensuring that every shift, every process, and every person is aligned to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient energy. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in a complex, high-stakes environment and takes genuine pride in keeping the lights on — literally.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead day to day operations of the power station, setting daily priorities, integrating maintenance activities, and planning for long-term operational performance – all within contractual, grid company, and customer dispatch requirements.
  • Own safety and environment compliance – directly supervise safe working systems, maintain a safety-conscious culture, and ensure environmental controls and reporting requirements are consistently met.
  • Manage agreements and processes – ensure procedures are in place for effective management of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and all Fuel Supply Agreements, and that all applicable GE Vernova operational procedures are followed.
  • Develop and lead your team – recruit, train, and coach direct reports including Shift Managers, an Assistant Operations Manager, and Chemist (where applicable); conduct regular performance assessments and actively support professional growth.
  • Control operational costs – prepare, manage, and monitor the Operations Department budget; identify and drive process improvement opportunities across all operational activities.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder partner – maintain effective working relationships with the Customer, grid company, fuel and water suppliers, government agencies, sub-contractors, and GE Vernova’s broader services organization.

Who You are

You're an experienced operations professional with a background in power generation — someone who leads with integrity, communicates clearly across cultures, and brings calm, structured thinking to high-pressure situations. You hold yourself and your team to high standards and know how to balance technical rigour with people leadership.

Required:

  • A degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor’s or Master’s level), or equivalent professional experience in power generation operations
  • Significant experience in power generation operations, including some exposure to commissioning phases
  • Proven experience in a line management or team leadership capacity
  • Strong knowledge of engineering practices and processes relevant to power station operation
  • Solid understanding of environmental controls and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of risk management techniques
  • Effective communication skills English, including in multicultural team settings

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with relevant power station legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience with commercial processes and budget management
  • Prior experience in the commissioning and start-up phases of a relevant power station type.
