In this role, you will take on a multifaceted remit that combines hands-on oversight of terminal operations with strategic responsibility for resources, costs, compliance, and continuous improvement. You will ensure that all aspects of terminal activities – from cargo movement and storage to inventory tracking and internal controls – are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with company policies, customer expectations, and industry standards. By balancing day-to-day operational supervision with forward-looking process optimisation, you will play a key role in maintaining smooth terminal performance and supporting overall business objectives.

What you will be doing

As Operations Manager, you will oversee the daily terminal operations, ensuring that cargo movement, storage activities, and inventory tracking are carried out safely, accurately, and efficiently. You will coordinate and supervise terminal personnel and equipment, making sure that resources are allocated effectively to meet both operational needs and customer requirements while maintaining strict cost control and adherence to budget limits. In your day-to-day work, you will closely monitor utilization of services and terminal equipment, authorizing expenditures and overseeing invoicing and payment processes for services rendered. You will act as a role model for regulatory compliance and safety, ensuring teams are properly trained, understand relevant industry regulations and internal policies, and consistently follow established guidelines. You will also take the lead in identifying process bottlenecks, driving initiatives to improve operational efficiency, and serving as the escalation point for issues that could disrupt terminal activities. In addition, you will maintain robust internal controls, monitor compliance, communicate operational issues, and contribute to effective reporting and risk management to support broader business objectives. Depending on country-specific needs, you may also take on additional responsibilities tailored to the local terminal environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise essential functions of daily terminal operations, including coordination of cargo movement, storage, and inventory tracking; Ensure terminal processes run safely and efficiently with oversight of both personnel and equipment.
  • Allocate resources to meet operational and customer requirements while monitoring utilization to prevent waste
  • Authorize expenditures within set limits and oversee invoicing and payment processes for services and terminal equipment
  • Enforce compliance with all relevant industry regulations and internal company policies; Act as a role model for safety and compliance, ensuring teams are properly trained and follow established safety standards and guidelines.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement in operational processes and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency
  • Serve as the point of escalation for operational issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution to minimize disruptions
  • Maintain internal controls so operational activities align with company guidelines, manage risk, and support business objectives; Communicate issues, monitor compliance, and contribute to effective reporting and risk management.

Qualifications

  • 10 years working experience within an operational environment/on terminals; 5 years working experience with chemicals.
  • Bachelor's Degree or similar work experience.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of operational processes.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong people skills and a change-oriented attitude.
