ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a nearly 30-year history in the Western Australia, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Operations and Maintenance Technician (OMT) to join our team in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia! Reporting to the Supervisor, North Goldfields and with day-to-day functional interaction and communication with the Regional Control Centre Operators.

The Northern System Operations and Maintenance Technicians will have an overall focus on the safe and efficient Operations and Maintenance of TransAlta’s operating assets in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. The base location for this position is for TransAlta’s Leinster & Mount Keith operating facilities, with regular travel between sites, is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties and is an 8/6 Fly in Fly out position from Perth. Occasional travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Support and contribute to a safe working team environment of open communication and collaboration
  • Carry out maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
  • Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration and minimise downtime
  • Daily collaboration with Regional Control System Operators on plant performance and daily required maintenance schedule
  • Undertake projects to optimise plant performance

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

  • Mechanical trade qualification
  • A Valid C class Australian Drivers licence (manual transmission).
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely both independently and in a team environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills (email, word, spread sheet, and databases) are required.
  • Must be able to work in hot & cold environments, at heights and within confined spaces.
  • Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical and P&ID drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of power generation, transmission and distribution.

NICE TO HAVES

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience in Aeroderivative or Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in Control Systems and PLC.
  • Experience in reciprocating Engine driven generation.
  • MR (truck) class preferred.
