Job Description
The Operations Geologist/Petrophysicist supports safe, efficient and environmentally responsible Geological operations, serving as the main liaison between the Subsurface and Drilling departments and as the focal point of communication with offshore Geological service providers. The role oversees the entire well construction process, from planning through post-mortem analysis, supporting key operational decisions (such as casing shoe depth selection and geosteering), preparing technical documentation, and ensuring compliance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support safe, efficient and environmentally responsible Geological operations.
- Main liaison between the Subsurface and the Drilling departments.
- Focal point of communication between office and offshore Geological service providers (Wellsite Geologists, MWD/LWD, ML, WL), supporting decision-making as needed (e.g. casing shoe depth selection, geosteering).
- Support the complete well construction process, encompassing well planning, execution and post-mortem analyses, ensuring that the established procedures are met and well objectives are achieved in a cost-effective manner.
- Prepare documentation related to the well construction process (e.g. Drilling Program, Daily Reports, End-of-Well, Composite Logs).
- Plan formation evaluation data acquisition in exploration and development wells in coordination with the Drilling department and service providers.
- Manage temperature, pore pressure and Geomechanical data pre-spud, while drilling and post-mortem.
- Follow-up geological operations, attending regular and on-demand operational meetings.
- Quality assurance and quality control of wireline and logging while drilling logs.
- Formation evaluation and generation of composite logs, integrating log, core and dynamic data to provide inputs to static and dynamic models.
- Manage raw and interpreted formation evaluation logs, including maintaining databases.
- Support designing laboratory analysis .
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, including delivery of required documentation to regulator.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Geoscience.
- Master's degree is a plus.
Experience & Qualifications
- Legally available to work in Brazil.
- Ability to write and communicate fluently in English and Portuguese
- Strong background in oil and gas operations
- Proficiency in industry standard petrophysical software.
- Working knowledge of well operations.
- Flexibility/availability for occasional offshore work.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Offshore experience desired, experience in the Southeast Brazil basins a plus.
- Knowledge in Geomechanics a plus.
