The Operations Generalist assists many departments at camp to help ensure that camp is clean and inviting to our guests. Most of the work will be in property and facility upkeep, completing tasks like maintenance repairs, landscaping, preparing camp for guest arrivals, and facilitating recreation activities consistent with the mission, vision, and established policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute to a positive and uplifting team culture that aligns with The Salvation Army’s overall mission and vision for Pine Summit Camp.
  • Possess the strength and stamina to remain alert, friendly, courteous, and patient for the duration of the staff member’s time on the job.Operations related tasks include but are not limited to the following:
  • Trash collection and disposal
  • Clean and set up rooms. This may involve moving furniture, equipment, and appliances as requested.
  • Mopping, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms and lodging.
  • Responding to and troubleshooting issues that may arise, like unclogging toilets and electrical outages.
  • Landscaping – raking and collecting pine needles, mowing lawns, leaf blowing, weed whacking, and tree trimming.
  • Minor plumbing, building, equipment, and facility repair.
  • Assist in facilitating activities for groups with exceptional service and catering facilitation to meet group needs when applicable. Leading activities include but are not limited to, ziplines, climbing tower, high ropes, team building, archery, and paintball.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment such as a plow, utvs, snow blower, mower, power tools, and wood splitter in a safe and efficient manner.
  • At times, help with hosting groups and working in the kitchen/dining hall.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties to ensure the property is ready for guest groups.
  • Be safety aware, reporting and/or resolving hazards found on camp grounds.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with The Salvation Army and camp policies and procedures and American Camp Association accreditation standards.
  • Assist with emergencies as needed.
  • Assist with other tasks needed at camp as assigned.

Working Conditions

May be asked to use a variety of equipment such as vacuums, lawn mower, weed eaters, saws, ladders, pressure washer, trucks, plows, non-power shop tools, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. BA preferred or a combination of education, training and experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a valid CA driver’s license.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities, camper and staff behavior.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis as needed to perform necessary duties.
  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing or walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure.
  • Must have ability to work well independently in a detailed, professional and courteous manner.
  • Combination of education, training and experience in the camping industry.
  • Friendly and personable. Excellent customer service skills required.
  • A team player; must work well with others.
  • Must have good communication skills and pay close attention to detail.
