Functional area: Operations & Maintenance

An opportunity exists for an Offshore Operations Engineer supporting Rhyl Flats Wind Farm. The position reports to the Rhyl Flats Production Manager and its core focus is to maximise the revenues for both RWE and the shareholders of the wind farm.

A key part of the role is to maximise the energy yield from the wind farm while controlling costs and improving safety. It requires excellent people and influencing skills, and a core aspect is to oversee the maintenance, inspection and fault rectification of the wind turbine generators and balance of plant while ensuring safety remains the top priority.

The role also encompasses influencing and exceeding our stakeholder expectations, including liaising with the Port, local authorities and other key stakeholders.

About the role:

  • Ensuring conformity with health, safety and environmental (HSE) standards as well as further development and optimisation in this field
  • Planning, coordinating and supervising all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, servicing and repair works of the wind farm balance of plant including foundation, HV network, HV sub-station and onshore operational facilities and Major Components
  • Overseeing of contractor performance in the planning, coordinating and supervising all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, servicing and repair works of the wind turbine generators
  • Application of the computerized maintenance management systems SAP, Wind Turbine and HV SCADA systems and ORL performance and reporting tools
  • Accountability as Deputy Person to the Production Manager
  • Supporting General Manager / Production Manager in delivering investment proposals to enhance site performance when required. Plan, budget and execute, to ensure Contractors comply to specification
  • Maintain site specific documentation on the Health & Safety Management System (ERP’s, Environmental Procedures, Operational procedures)
  • Support Production Manager to optimise stock levels to maintain productivity balanced against low capital employed on Inventory and warehouse management
  • Working relationships with O&M contractors, liaison with local council for cable route management, Port Liaison at Mostyn, Emergency Services including Coastguard/Lifeboat and management of emergency drills
  • Attendance of Wind turbine Owners Forum and other Industry forums as required

Role requirements and experience:

  • Experience in Offshore Wind Operations, and have the ability and fitness to work offshore as well as at height
  • Have excellent reporting and project management skills which are required in the daily management of staff, contractors, internal customers and suppliers
  • Proven track record in Operations supervising and improving health and safety performance
  • Experience in life cycle management, budgetary control and working/managing third party contractors
  • Experience as a Contractor Officer
  • A formal qualification in Health and Safety Management, as well as a strong awareness for occupational safety
  • A technical electrical or mechanical qualification to HNC standard or equivalent
  • Experience of Marine logistics including heavy lift vessels
  • Experience of lifting operations and HV network operations
  • Knowledge of operations management systems e.g. SAP, ORL, SCADA and excellent MS-Office skills
  • Good technical know-how and commercial understanding
