
To provide the Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Department with anindividual to assist with supporting department operations in Allegheny County, along with nonmetroareas of the Division. Primary responsibilities will include assisting the Operations Chiefwith coordinating coverage for responses for emergency operations, and special events.Additionally, the individual will be responsible for ensuring equipment and resources areoperational and in a state of readiness
Along with Emergency Disaster Services Operations Chief, serve as theon-call Duty Officer and Primary Responder.o Including acknowledging requests for service, determining nature of theresponse/request, and initiating a response if necessary.o Coordination of volunteers, resources, supplies, and equipment to supportresponses and special events.o Ensure all response supplies are well stocked, discard any out-of-dateitems.o Serve as the primary driver of the canteen, being able to load/unload,prepare food, work extended hours, clean the canteen, and repeatedly liftheavy objects. Readiness & Preparation:o Ensure that response vehicles are well maintained both mechanically andcosmetically, and that they are ready to be deployed and operational includingbeing fully stocked after each response/event.o Report all mechanical issues to Emergency Disaster Services AssistantDirector for maintenance scheduling.o Ensure the walk-in refrigerator/freezer are clean, in order, andoperational.o Ensure cleanliness of fill room, including floors, walls, sinks, freezer, icemachine, and water dispenser.o Maintain cleanliness and operational standard for all operation-basedresources including but not limited to; Cambros, coolers, generators, mistingfans, tents, etc.Additional Responsibilities: Special Duty Events:o Assist with scheduling volunteers & arrangements for special duty eventsapproved and assigned by EDS Command Staff. Provide on-ground support asneeded. Volunteers:o Provide direct supervision to volunteers assigned under granted areas ofresponsibility. Assist with recruitment, retention, and on-boarding ofvolunteers. Donations:o Assist with the Emergency Disaster Services Department’s partnershipwith the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and other donationavenues. May include assisting with donation pick-up or distribution asnecessary. General Items:o Provide the EDS Command Staff with general assistance through allprogram phases and development for local and Divisional Emergency DisasterServices program.o Assist with maintaining EDS garage facility including, but not limited tocleaning, trash removal, etc.o Participate in all meetings as assigned by Command Staff.o Complete & maintain all logs and documentation required for areas ofresponsibility.o Assist with planning, development, implantation, and accomplishment ofdepartment goals.o Develop, maintain & achieve professional development goals.o When necessary, undertake additional duties and tasks as assigned bysupervisors, other relationships and responsibilities may be created for timeperiods deemed necessary upon emergency circumstances.o In absence of Operations Chief, EDS Operations Support Staff will reportto the EDS Assistant Directoro All scheduling matters should be handled with immediate supervisor.
Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License. Working knowledge of basic Canteen systems, functions, and maintenance. Experience with operating a forklift. Must be able to work with manual & power tools. Ability to work on a ladder. Ability to lift and carry up to 75lbs at least 4 feet off the ground to load vehicles(No Exceptions) Basic working knowledge of computers, specifically Microsoft OfficeApplications Ability to work with minimum supervision. Ability to supervise & manage other individuals. Wear appropriate EDS uniform & identification. PA Clearance required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PAChild Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record. And Fingerprint basedfederal criminal history. PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting & The Salvation Army KeepSafetraining required.Education & Experience: Associates degree Preferred. High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. Minimum of two years’ experience in related field of non-profit, emergencyArmy KeepSafetraining required.Education & Experience: Associates degree Preferred. management/response, vehicle maintenance, or any combination.
