Job Description

Main Purpose:

To oversee all aspects of our warehousing and logistics operations. The ideal candidate will ensure the efficient receipt, storage, value-adding servicing, and dispatch of a wide variety of products, meeting customer requirements and optimizing workflows to drive operational excellence. This role involves managing people, processes, and systems to ensure productivity targets and safety standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operational Management: Plan, coordinate, and monitor the full order cycle and daily operations, including receiving, warehousing, inventory management, order fulfilment,
  • Coordinate train movements across the region with Impala Rail Managers
  • Share information on planned traffic with Rail operations managers – ZAM, DRC, & SA
  • Handle assigned rail projects
  • Daily planning of traffic movement across the region
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analysing operational data and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), identifying bottlenecks, and implementing changes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.

Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of warehouse staff, providing guidance, training, and performance reviews to foster a culture of accountability and professional growth.

  • Health and Safety Compliance: Implement and maintain rigorous health, safety, and security standards within the work environment, ensuring compliance with all legal and company policies and conducting regular risk assessments.
  • Inventory Control: Oversee stock control and inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts and audits, optimizing storage space and planning future capacity requirements.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Manage operational budgets, control variable costs, and allocate staff and equipment resources effectively to meet financial and operational targets.

CHESS Leadership and Accountability

  • To lead all employees in ensuring that the safety culture at the Terminal is improved and upheld.
  • To lead investigations, implement corrective action, and review CHESS performance at scheduled intervals.
  • Ensure compliance with all CHESS policies, procedures and regulatory requirements across Terminal operations.

Resource Allocation & Strategy Planning

  • Allocate adequate resources (personnel, equipment, budget) for CHESS programs and initiatives.
  • Develop and approve annual CHESS objectives, targets, and improvement plans for the Terminal.

Stakeholder Engagement & Community Relations

Maintain positive relationships with local communities, regulatory bodies and emergency services

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in warehouse management software (WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), with the ability to interpret data and generate reports for decision-making.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and train a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.

Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to challenges.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in marketing, Transport and Logistics or equivalent

Three + years working experience in warehousing and logistics
