The opportunity

We have an opportunity for an Operational Risk Advisor to join CSIRO’s Integrity Unit.

In this role, you will support the organisation’s operational risk management capability with a strong focus on Defence Export Controls (DEC). You will provide practical advice and services to support the identification, assessment and management of operational risks across CSIRO.

You will work closely with diverse stakeholders across the organisation to strengthen risk awareness, support compliance obligations, and promote a proactive risk culture. The role may also contribute to broader risk team activities as required.

Your high-level duties will include:

  • Providing operational risk management advice and services across CSIRO, with a focus on Defence Export Controls
  • Supporting risk identification, assessment and mitigation activities to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to embed risk-aware practices and support assurance activities
  • Contributing to monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement of operational risk frameworks and processes
  • Supporting broader Risk team activities as required.

Role particulars

Location: Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane preferred, with other locations considered.

Salary: AU$100k – AU$113k per annum (pro-rata for part-time) + 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in science, engineering or business compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience providing regulatory or compliance advice in a complex organisation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and work successfully independently on shared team objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, interpret, synthesise and communicate complex information and draw logical conclusions and linkages.
  • Excellent verbal communication and written skills, with a proven track record in building and maintaining effective, collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, proactively resolve and/or escalate enquiries in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.

Desirable

  • Experience in managing defence export controls and/or research regulatory compliance.
