Job Description

Working with the AA | Me mahi tahi tatou ki AA

For over 120 years the AA have been helping Kiwis on their adventures! Today, we're one of New Zealand's most respected and trusted brands. From our humble beginnings as a motoring enthusiast's club, the New Zealand AA (Automobile Association) has grown into a large, dynamic organisation offering many services and products to more than a million Members.

And now, we’re building the organisation of the future – more connected, modern, and purpose-driven. We are a business in transformation, with opportunities to work cross-functionally, grow new skills, and make a meaningful impact. We’re investing in our people, platforms, and ways of working to stay ahead of what our Members and customers need.

What You’ll Be Doing | Mō te Tūranga

As our Operational Resilience and Recovery Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in strengthening how the AA prepares for, responds to and recovers from operational disruption. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of resilience and recovery planning across the organisation, designing practical, real world approaches that ensure we can continue supporting our Members when it matters most.

This is a hands on, high impact role where you’ll work across Technology and the wider business to build and embed resilience frameworks, continuity plans and recovery strategies from the ground up. You’ll be trusted to shape the approach, challenge assumptions and ensure plans are both realistic and effective in an operational environment.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design, development and continuous improvement of operational resilience, business continuity and disaster recovery practices across Technology
  • Identifying and documenting critical business services, systems and dependencies, ensuring a clear understanding of what matters most
  • Facilitating business impact assessments to define recovery priorities, timeframes and acceptable levels of disruption
  • Developing and maintaining practical, fit for purpose continuity and recovery plans that can be relied on during incidents
  • Designing and running resilience exercises and simulations, using insights to strengthen preparedness and response capability
  • Working closely with platform owners and stakeholders to ensure recovery expectations are realistic, achievable and aligned to technical capability
  • Analysing incidents and disruptions to identify gaps and drive continuous improvement in resilience and recovery planning
  • Acting as a trusted advisor, providing expert guidance on resilience risks, recovery readiness and improvement opportunities

About You | Mōu

You’re a confident and experienced resilience or recovery professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys taking ownership of meaningful, organisation wide initiatives. You’re equally comfortable working hands on in the detail and engaging with stakeholders to influence outcomes and drive change.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • At least three years’ experience in operational resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery or a closely related field
  • Strong practical experience developing and implementing resilience and recovery plans in a complex environment
  • Proven capability in leading business impact assessments and resilience or continuity initiatives
  • A strong understanding of technology platforms and environments, with the ability to assess what is realistically achievable in recovery scenarios
  • Experience working with operational or mission critical services where disruption has real world impact
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in risk, technology, business continuity or a related discipline

You also bring the ability to think critically and challenge expectations, balancing what the business wants with what is technically achievable. You’re confident managing stakeholders and navigating difficult conversations, particularly when setting realistic recovery expectations or pushing back where needed.

You take a proactive, solutions focused approach, are comfortable working autonomously and bring a high level of ownership to your work. With strong communication skills, you can translate complex resilience and recovery concepts into clear, practical guidance that drives action across both technical and non technical teams.

What We Offer | Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou
