Job Description

The Operational Excellence (OpEx) Specialist supports enterprise-wide Operational Excellence initiatives by contributing to improved effectiveness, consistency, and performance across XKIG. This role operates within the Operational Excellence function and works across organizational boundaries to support analysis, integration, and continuous improvement efforts.

The OpEx Specialist is adaptive in scope and may support, coordinate, or lead discrete initiatives or programs as assigned. Work may include a combination of field engagement, systems and remote computer-based activities to support insight, alignment, and execution.

This role includes ownership of defined Operational Excellence programs or workstreams, with accountability for delivery, adoption, and continuous improvement results.

This is an in-office role in Norfolk, VA.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position typically has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may, when appropriate, assume supervisory responsibility or provide informal guidance, coordination, or functional leadership for OpEx-related initiatives, workstreams, or programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide strategic support for Operational Excellence initiatives through analysis, coordination, and continuous improvement leadership.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate operational needs, identify challenges, and recommend solutions that drive organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead or contribute to the design, enhancement, and implementation of processes, tools, and programs that sustain operational performance.
  • Serve as program owner for assigned Operational Excellence initiatives (i.e., training systems, field process standardization, safety integration, or performance improvement programs), accountable for end-to-end design, execution, sustainment, and measurable outcomes.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of operational content, including training resources, safety communications, tailgates, and procedural documentation.
  • Collect, synthesize, and present critical data and insights to inform leadership decisions.
  • Represent Operational Excellence priorities through field, office, and system-based engagements, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Maintain governance of OpEx documentation, resources, and improvement tracking systems.
  • Demonstrate agility in responding to shifting priorities and evolving business objectives, applying independent judgment and discretion within assigned program scope and Operational Excellence governance.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with sound professional judgment and adaptability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across functions.
  • Proficiency with standard business and collaboration tools; experience with LMS platforms, content development, or process documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of programs or initiatives and drive results in matrixed, cross-functional environments.

Work Environment

Primarily office - or remote-based, with periodic engagement in operational environments.

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel as required to support initiatives across company geographical footprint.

Required Education and Experience

  • Relevant experience in operations, safety, training, process improvement, or organizational support roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improvement initiatives in operational or safety-sensitive environments.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related fields.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement or Operational Excellence concepts.
