Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

The Head – Operations will be responsible for overseeing and driving the successful execution of smart metering installations within the assigned geographical area. Reporting directly to the Smart Metering Project Head, the role entails end-to-end operational planning, resource deployment, and field execution to ensure targeted installations are achieved on time and within quality standards. The incumbent will coordinate with cross-functional teams, monitor daily progress, resolve field-level issues, and facilitate strict adherence to project timelines, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.

Project Implementation & Execution

  • Responsible for timely execution of smart metering installation projects in alignment with defined project timelines and milestones.
  • Drive end-to-end implementation activities across allocated zones while maintaining alignment with quality and delivery benchmarks.
  • Oversee customer enumeration, meter surveys, and consumer indexing to drive data accuracy and operational success.
  • Oversee the effective usage of mobile applications for meter data recording and field operations.
  • Provide feedback for app improvements while supporting field teams in achieving training completion and compliance in digital data collection.
  • Guide and support zonal in-charges, driving their accountability in project execution, issue resolution, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Handle escalations related to field supervisors and workforce concerns, maintaining discipline and productivity.

Project Monitoring & Review

  • Conduct regular reviews of project progress, performance metrics, and compliance across divisions/zones.
  • Identify lagging zones or circles, analyze root causes, and implement corrective measures to facilitate timely delivery of smart metering installations.
  • TAT to resolve performance issues in lagging zones

Supply Chain & Material Readiness

  • Facilitate uninterrupted material availability by coordinating with the procurement and stores teams.
  • Monitor supply chain processes to minimize delays and align resources with field requirements.

Stakeholder Coordination & Liaison

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including Discoms, Electricity Board, Outsourcing Partners, Local Administration, and internal teams.
  • Facilitate necessary permissions, support, and coordination for seamless project rollout.
  • Generate actionable insights through performance tracking and submit periodic updates to senior leadership.
  • Serve as the escalation point for operational challenges and stakeholder grievances and facilitating timely resolutions.

Team Development and Management

  • Conduct periodic evaluations, identify training needs, facilitate skill development programs, and enhance team competencies.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • B. Tech in Electrical Engineering
  • MBA preferred

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • 15+ years total experience, with recent 7 years of experience in power distribution space (Preferably in Smart Metering Implementation / Project Management in Power Distribution)
