About the Role

A leading regional healthcare provider known for patient-centric care is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to join their surgical services team in the greater Chicago, Illinois area. This is a full-time permanent opportunity within a well-established acute care environment that values clinical excellence, patient safety, and collaborative team performance. The ideal candidate brings strong perioperative nursing experience, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to function effectively across a high-volume, fast-paced OR setting.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled scrub and circulating nursing support across a broad range of surgical specialties including general, orthopedic, cardiovascular, and laparoscopic procedures
  • Conduct thorough preoperative patient assessments and prepare the surgical environment in compliance with infection control and safety standards
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to anticipate procedural needs and maintain optimal room efficiency
  • Monitor and document patient status throughout intraoperative and immediate postoperative phases
  • Maintain accurate surgical counts, implant records, and specimen documentation per institutional policy
  • Ensure all equipment is properly sterilized, inspected, and ready prior to each case
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and ongoing competency validation
  • Support orientation and mentorship of new OR staff and nursing students as applicable

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license in good standing in the state of Illinois
  • Minimum of 2 years of perioperative nursing experience in an acute care or hospital-based OR setting
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • CNOR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both scrub and circulating roles across multiple surgical specialties
  • Strong understanding of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and OR safety protocols
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a high-pressure environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship available
