
Room Preparation and Turnover
Sets up operating rooms with surgical equipment and supplies prior to procedures.
Assists in turning over rooms between cases by cleaning surfaces, removing used linens, and restocking necessary items.
Ensures all equipment is functioning properly and promptly reports any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
Patient Transport and Positioning
Transports patients safely to and from the operating room using stretchers or beds.
Assists in safe and accurate positioning of patients on the operating table, utilizing appropriate positioning aids and safety protocols.
Maintains patient dignity, comfort, and safety during all transport and positioning activities.
Support During Procedures
Assists with room flow and communication while maintaining awareness of the sterile field.
Supports surgical and anesthesia teams as requested, including assistance with equipment setup.
Specimen Transport and Handling
Transports surgical specimens to the appropriate laboratory or pathology department promptly.
Ensures correct documentation and chain-of-custody procedures are followed for all specimens.
Communicates any specimen-related concerns or delays to the surgical team or circulating nurse immediately.
Infection Control and Safety
Follows all infection prevention and control protocols, including use of PPE and hand hygiene.
Cleans and disinfects surgical spaces and equipment according to established policies.
Properly disposes of biohazardous waste, sharps, and used surgical materials in compliance with safety regulations.
Inventory and Stocking
Restocks linens, sterile supplies, and surgical items in assigned ORs and support areas.
Monitors inventory levels and informs staff or supervisors when supplies are low or expired.
Assists in maintaining organized, accessible, and clean storage areas.
Communication and Team Support
Maintains clear and respectful communication with OR staff, including nurses, techs, and surgeons.
Follows directions efficiently in high-stress environments and adapts to rapidly changing surgical needs.
Contributes to a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
