Job Description

With deep experience across underwriting, claims, and operational processes, the Operating Model Architect identifies where ideas will succeed, where they will break, and how processes must be redesigned to be scalable, compliant, and executable in the real world. The role partners closely with our AI Integrator and Design Leads to ensure that SCOR’s operating model is simultaneously human‑centered, technically scalable, and grounded in the execution realities of insurance.

  • Have a full view of the end‑to‑end architecture of core insurance processes, including underwriting, claims, risk approvals, and operational handoffs
  • Ensure transformation initiatives and target operating models are grounded in practical, executable process design
  • Map complex workflows across business and operations, identifying dependencies, bottlenecks, and failure points
  • Translate complex operational realities into clear insights that help colleagues across business, technology, and transformation teams understand execution constraints and opportunities.

  • Act as a reality check on new ideas, identifying where concepts conflict with operational, regulatory, or execution constraints
  • Redesign processes to improve efficiency, clarity, and scalability while respecting regulatory and control requirements
  • Partner closely with underwriting, claims, operations, risk, and compliance teams to ensure credibility and adoption
  • Provide clear process guidance to support AI integration, automation, and new ways of working
  • Contribute to enterprise‑wide consistency while allowing for pragmatic local execution where required
  • 10–15 years of experience in insurance operations, including underwriting operations, claims, or operational transformation
  • Proven experience in process architecture, BPM leadership, or large‑scale process redesign
  • University degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of specific academic specialization
  • Deep understanding of how insurance processes operate in practice, including regulatory and control checkpoints
  • Strong collaboration skills, able to work seamlessly with underwriting, claims, operations, risk, design, and AI stakeholders.

  • Experience working across both business and operational functions
  • Strong ability to map and explain complex end‑to‑end workflows
  • Pragmatic mindset, focused on what works in real operating environments
  • Credibility and respect with operational teams and senior practitioners
  • Clear communicator, able to challenge ideas constructively and ground discussions in reality

Success Indicators

  • Alignment and coherence between process reality, operating model design, and AI‑enabled workflows is strengthened.

  • Target operating models are executable and adopted in practice
  • Transformation initiatives avoid rework caused by operational or regulatory blind spots
  • Core processes become clearer, more consistent, and easier to operate
  • Business and operations teams view the role as a trusted, practical authority

About SCOR

SCOR, one of the world's largest reinsurers, provides its clients with a diversified and innovative range of solutions to control and manage risk. Using its experience and expertise, “The Art & Science of Risk”, SCOR provides cutting-edge financial solutions, analytics tools and services in all areas related to risk – in Life & Health as well as in P&C.

The reinsurance industry is about combining technical expertise and experience with the developments of science. However many tools we use to conduct our activities (models, databases, pricing tools, reserving tools, and so on), we also need expert judgments and human experience to correctly underwrite. This is what we call the art of underwriting. Reinsurance is a knowledge industry. Expertise is an accumulation variable.

The most advanced tool will never replace the intuition of a seasoned underwriter facing a complex risk. Because at the end of the day, you have to make a decision, to sign, to underwrite. And what we have underwritten, we cannot overwrite - our word is our bond, as is our signature. This dimension of our business, linked to the art of underwriting, is more important than some observers would have people believe.

One way to acquire this art is to share experiences – both good and bad – and to share doubts and questions. Artists always belong to a school, from which they learn their craft.

Like artists, we have to learn, imitate, mimic, and then innovate, in order to find our own style and create our own distinctive work.
