Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Pay Range: $31.05/hr. to $44.08/hr.

The Operating Engineer operates and maintains physical plant equipment on specified shift assignments. Performs special assignments on complex electrical and mechanical equipment. Under supervision, as assigned evaluates and implements corrective measures to return malfunctioning equipment and systems to specified standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performed majority of the time:

· Performs routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and other duties as assigned.

· Uses a database system to open and close work orders, tracks work orders and ensures that industry standards are adhered to.

· Communicates in an effective manner in order to meet customer expectations and reports their status on a regular basis to their supervisor.

· Makes required log entries, controls the work environment and supports safety and security process, procedures, protocols, and policies.

· Demonstrates ability to safely operate all equipment in the steam plant.

· Exhibits knowledge of and the ability to operate all HVAC and ventilating equipment.

· Completes all required documentation logs and forms.

· Illustrates ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment safely and efficiently.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:

· Implements policies / procedures in times of disaster or an emergency.

· Escorts contractors, review the quality of work and understand how to direct the work of contractors who provide services in a hospital or healthcare settings.

· Documents Confidential Occurrence events.

Decision making and budget responsibilities (e.g. impact limited to the employee, entire unit or organization-wide):

· Impact limited to the employee.

· No budget responsibility.

Education:

Required

· N/A

Preferred

· High school diploma or GED.

Experience:

Required

· At least two (2) years of experience working in a hospital or similar type of facility conducting a mechanical maintenance function.

Preferred

· Minimum three (3) years of experience as an operating engineer working in a hospital or similar type facility.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Required

· Currently enrolled or accepted in a program to obtain an Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) license, OR successfully accepted into an LME program within 120 days of hire.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years old with minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the type of vehicle being driven.

· Competent in basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.

· Undertakes continuing education, and on-the-job training programs in the operating engineer disciplines.

· Demonstrates proper appearance and personal conduct for the employee's job.

· Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

· Demonstrates ability to safely operate all equipment in the steam plant.

· Exhibits knowledge of and the ability to operate all HVAC and ventilating equipment.

· Completes all required documentation logs and forms.

· Illustrates ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment safely and efficiently.

· Recognizes own limitations and seeks guidance appropriately.

· Functions as a cooperative, flexible team member in a positive manner utilizing good communication skills.

· Bilingual skills a plus.

Other:

Required

· Drives an organization owned vehicle as part of their job.

· Must have a satisfactory driving record, which is defined as:

o no more than one (1) accident and two (2) moving violations or

o two (2) accidents and one (1) violation or

o no accidents and three (3) violations on or off the job within the past 36 months.

o No conviction for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII), suspension, auto felony conviction or other serious violations within the past 36 months.

· This employee must complete a defensive driving course within the first 90 days of employment and yearly thereafter.
