An exciting opportunity has become available to join Knox City Council in an Open Space Maintenance Officer role within the Green Spaces and Environment team. Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join an established, high-performing team responsible for maintaining playgrounds, public open spaces, and supporting tree maintenance operations across the municipality.

This hands-on role provides variety, combining playground and open space maintenance with arboriculture activities including tree pruning, vegetation management and supporting tree crew operations to help maintain safe, attractive and functional community spaces. The role contributes directly to the presentation, safety and enjoyment of Knox’s parks, reserves and streetscapes.

This is a full-time permanent role based at the Operations Centre. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.

This is a Band 3 classified role under the Knox City Council Enterprise Agreement. Remuneration will be $68,027.02 to $72,630.73 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.

What you will bring to this role

The key selection criteria for this role are:

  • Trade Certificate or equivalent in a related field, or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training;
  • Experience in playground inspection and maintenance (Playground Inspection Certification would be advantageous);
  • Experience in horticulture or arboriculture practices, and in operating related equipment such as chippers, chainsaws, etc.;
  • Experience in gardening/ landscaping work;
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake skilled work including equipment repairs, basic carpentry, operation of power tools;
  • Demonstrated competence utilising technology in the workplace, including portable devices;
  • Traffic Control Certificates (RHWHS205H & RHWHS302H) and a demonstrated ability to understand and apply traffic management;
  • First Aid Certificate;
  • Current Victorian Medium Rigid Driver's License (to operate a truck or vehicle over 4.5 tonne GVM to 13.9 tonne GCM);
  • Demonstrated ability to address issues in a positive and professional manner, and the ability and willingness to mentor others.
