Job Description

Role: NYU Stern’s DHL Initiative on Globalization is recruiting a full-time research scientist with a background in international business, international economics, or data science and a passion for analyzing the flows that connect countries around the world. This role will focus on measuring and analyzing the development of globalization based on country-level and firm-level data. The selected candidate will participate in all stages of the research process, from background research to data collection/analysis to development of publications. We are open to considering candidates at various levels (including pre-doctoral and post-doctoral researchers), with the selected candidate’s title (Junior or Assistant Research Scientist) dependent on the selected candidate’s qualifications and prior experience. Candidates for Assistant Research Scientist level will be expected to conduct more advanced research activities and manage larger projects.

About NYU Stern’s DHL Initiative on Globalization: Our research initiative, part of NYU Stern’s Center for the Future of Management, aims to house the academic world’s most comprehensive base of knowledge on interactions that take place between countries and their implications for business and public policy. We produce a variety of research outputs aimed at a broad audience of business executives, policymakers, scholars, and educators. These include the DHL Global Connectedness Report series, the DHL Trade Atlas series, the NYU Stern Globalization Explorer interactive website, and a variety of research articles and teaching materials.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is between $52,000 and $65,000 (Junior Research Scientist) or between $62,000 and $80,000 (Assistant Research Scientist). New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s (Junior Research Scientist level), Master’s (Junior or Assistant Research Scientist level, commensurate with experience), or PhD (Assistant Research Scientist level) degree in a related field.

Preferred Skills:

  • Quantitative research on globalization, international economics, or international business (interest/background in international affairs, geography, or regional studies is also valued)
  • Proficiency in R programming, SQL, use of data APIs
  • Experience working with online databases at country-level (e.g., World Bank, IMF) and/or firm-level (e.g., fDi Markets, LSEG)
  • Writing for business/policy and academic audiences
  • Statistics, advanced data analysis, data visualization
