Job Description

The Department of Economics at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Health Economics, beginning July 1, 2027. The rank is open. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have completed the Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field by the date of appointment. Candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level should have a record of scholarship commensurate with appointment at that rank at a leading research department.

We seek a scholar whose research addresses substantive questions in health economics, broadly defined, including but not limited to the industrial organization of health care markets, health insurance design, the determinants and consequences of health over the life cycle, and the evaluation of health policy. The successful candidate will join an established group in health economics and will have opportunities for collaboration across the University, including with the Baker Institute for Public Policy and with Population Health, and with institutions in the Texas Medical Center.

Responsibilities include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the Department and the University. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, job market paper or representative publications, and a teaching statement. Applications received by November 15, 2026 will receive full consideration.

Also, in our candidate pools, we seek to attract greater representation of women, scholars of color, people with disabilities, veterans, and others who have historically been underrepresented in Economics. Rice is located in Houston, one of the most diverse metropolitan areas in the United States.
