Job Description

The department is particularly interested in candidates whose research programs will strengthen and expand existing areas of excellence in women’s health, reproductive biology, maternal-fetal medicine, placental biology, gynecologic disease, reproductive endocrinology, infertility, oncology, inflammation, cardiovascular and metabolic health, and translational medicine. Through discovery, education, clinical care, and service, faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology strive to advance scientific knowledge and improve the health of women and pregnant individuals across the lifespan.

The department provides a dynamic and collaborative environment for cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research that bridges basic, translational, and clinical investigation. Faculty collaborate across the Morsani College of Medicine, USF Health, affiliated hospitals, and research institutes to develop new diagnostics, therapeutics, and preventive strategies for conditions affecting reproductive, maternal, fetal, and gynecologic health.

This position includes developing and leading an independent research program, conducting collaborative and programmatic research with departmental and institutional faculty, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals, pursuing and securing extramural funding, and contributing meaningfully to the academic mission of the department and college. The successful candidate will also support the research development of faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, graduate students, and other trainees.

The candidate will be expected to participate in departmental, college, and institutional service, which may include serving on committees or task forces, assisting with research operations, mentoring trainees, contributing to scholarly activities, and supporting initiatives that advance the department’s research enterprise.

  • Develop and maintain an innovative, independent, and extramurally funded research program.
  • Conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary research with faculty within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Morsani College of Medicine, USF Health, and affiliated institutions.
  • Publish high-impact scientific research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Pursue and secure federal, foundation, and other extramural funding.
  • Support the development of a strong, collaborative, and well-funded departmental research enterprise.
  • Mentor faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, graduate students, and research staff in scholarly and research activities.
  • Contribute to the teaching, mentoring, and service missions of the department and college.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, research meetings, committees, and other departmental activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong record of scholarly productivity and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience developing or contributing to externally funded research programs.
  • Ability to build collaborative, interdisciplinary research programs.
  • Experience mentoring students, residents, fellows, or junior faculty in research.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and professionalism skills.
  • Commitment to advancing the research, education, and service missions of an academic medical center.

Minimum Qualification

  • MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in medicine, biomedical sciences, reproductive biology, women’s health, public health, or a related field.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated potential or established record of extramural research funding.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established or emerging research program relevant to obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive biology, maternal-fetal medicine, placental biology, gynecologic disease, women’s health, or related fields.
  • Strong record of federal or foundation research funding.
  • Experience in an academic medical center or health sciences environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring trainees and supporting faculty scholarly development.
  • Experience conducting translational, clinical, population health, or basic science research relevant to women’s and reproductive health.
  • Strong track record of interdisciplinary collaboration.
