Job Description

The GW MFA Department of Emergency Medicine, Operational Medicine is a licensed non-transport Advanced Life Support (ALS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider in the District of Columbia and Commonwealth of Virginia. We provide comprehensive medical support from events as large as National Special Security Event (NSSE) to a Basic Life Support (BLS) single resource to support a small event.

This Program Manager position provides leadership, programmatic growth and day-to-day functions of the Operational Medicine Section. This includes, but not limited to, operational leadership, event staffing, supplies/logistics coordination, EMS agency requirements adherence, and acting within one’s scope of practice and a clinician. The Program Manager works daily overseeing and supporting Coordinators, Senior EMTs, EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  • In coordination with the Director, directs, develops, and tracks completion of Innovative Practice tasks and assignments.
  • Leads Operational Medicine EMS Agency activities, including interfacing with clients, assisting with contracting, staffing, administrative responsibilities, clinical care, and medication and equipment management.
  • Oversee the daily caseload to ensure all items are addressed in appropriate and timely manner
  • Represents The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates to clients, providing customers with prompt, courteous and efficient service.
  • Consistently demonstrates excellent customer service skills and strong ability to effectively manage crisis situations.
  • Works with clinical staff, medical directors, and director to coordinate and deliver Innovative Practice clinical services within scope of practice and at standard of care
  • Maintains and update practicing protocols, policies and procedures, and the standard of care and operations for the agency.
  • Organizes and maintains program records, correspondence, contracts, and related program materials
  • Maintains all aspects of an EMS agency to include attendance, activity, credentialing and training history for all medical providers.
  • Develops and maintains familiarity with information technology and communications equipment used in the Innovative Practice.
  • Ability to physically respond to a medical emergency throughout an area and performs work which may involve strenuous physical tasks, including during hazardous conditions and/or inclement weather.
  • Ability to move 100 pounds to a height of 4 feet and carry 100 pounds, a minimum of 6 feet. Ability to bend, stoop, crawl and walk on uneven surfaces. Has the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment properly to include the ability to wear respiratory protection equipment.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed to support the Innovative Practice mission
  • Other duties as requested/assigned by Program Director.

Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred, associates required. Must have current NREMT or higher EMS certification.

Experience

Requires a minimum two years of specialized and/or advanced administrative, technical and project management experience.
