Job Description

About Us

Simm Group is a Western Australian group of businesses spanning multiple sectors. Northfleet, our transport and heavy equipment business operates buses, trucks and heavy haulage out of five depots including Osborne Park (head office), Hazelmere, Port Hedland, Karratha and Newman, supporting resources, civil and passenger transport clients across the state.

ICT is a shared function across the group. We own our stack rather than outsourcing it, which means real breadth of work and real ownership, not a ticket queue and a script.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, get-out-of-your-chair role. You will be the physical ICT presence across our sites and the person who actually walks into the comms room, fixes what the remote session cannot, and makes sure the technology at each site works for the people using it.

This role will be supporting all the Simm Group companies including Simm Group, Northfleet, Running with Thieves and our Private Island off Indonesia.

You will work alongside our Helpdesk Officer, who handles the front line remotely. You pick up what needs hands, what needs escalation, and what needs someone standing in front of it.

Based at Osborne Park, reporting to the Head of ICT.

What you will be doing

  • On-site and deskside support across all group sites, the escalation point for anything the helpdesk cannot resolve remotely.
  • Site infrastructure: comms rooms, switching, structured cabling, wireless, UPS, printers and site connectivity.
  • Installation and support of Microsoft Teams Room systems, TV, CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi so a comfort level around tools and cabling (the odd cable here or there, not full office fit outs) is a plus.
  • Endpoint build, imaging, deployment and lifecycle management via Intune and Autopilot
  • Microsoft 365 administration, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Entra ID and endpoint compliance.
  • New site setups, office moves, relocations and refresh projects.
  • Supporting operational technology in the field, tablets, in-vehicle systems, telematics, scanners and workshop equipment.
  • Regular scheduled visits to metro sites and periodic travel to regional and Pilbara sites.
  • Maintaining accurate asset registers, site documentation and network diagrams.
  • Identifying what keeps breaking and fixing the root cause, not the symptom.
  • Metro site visits are a regular part of the week. Regional and Pilbara travel is periodic rather than constant, typically planned trips of a few days, not a FIFO roster.

What you will need

Essential

  • Several years in a desktop support, field services or on-site role, working unsupervised
  • Strong Microsoft 365 and Windows 11 administration and troubleshooting skills, including Intune and Entra ID
  • Practical networking ability — switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Wi-Fi surveys and fault isolation
  • Genuine hands-on hardware competence. Comfortable in a comms room, patching, racking and terminating
  • The judgement to work alone at a remote site and make sensible calls without a supervisor nearby
  • Ability to communicate with operational people, drivers, workshop staff, site supervisors, in plain language
  • Clear documentation habits
  • Willingness to travel to regional sites and to participate in an after-hours on-call roster
  • Current C-class WA driver license
  • Australian work rights

Desirable

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Information Technology, or relevant Microsoft or networking certifications
  • PowerShell scripting for deployment and automation
  • Experience in transport, mining services, construction or similar operational industries
  • Experience supporting remote or Pilbara sites
  • Exposure to ERP platforms, ideally Odoo
  • Familiarity with telematics, IVMS or CCTV systems

What is on offer

  • A permanent role with real ownership and visible impact across two businesses
  • Variety, different sites, different problems, different people every week
  • A small team where your work is seen and your ideas get heard
  • Exposure to a modern stack including Microsoft 365, Intune, Odoo, AWS, telematics and AI tooling
  • Training and certification support
  • Free onsite parking

How to apply

Apply with your resume and a short cover letter telling us about a site problem you solved that nobody else could.

Applicants must have current Australian work rights. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol screen, and a national police check.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
